I've had mine for over six months now. Still not used to it and still don't like it. But it is what it is....sigh
How come, seems pretty easy to get use to?

I would prefer if the dial only had 4 stops for P-R-N-D. No spinning the dial like the wheel on The Price is Right.
My 2020 Explorer does this. I don't understand why the Maverick (and apparently the Escape according to another poster) just spins.

I don't know. I guess it's because I've been driving vehicles with gear shifts for over 45 years. Plus I still have a Dodge Ram that has a gear shift.

Yeah I got used to it pretty quickly, but do wish that it stopped at P and D instead of spinning forever.

it won’t spin if you have used the remote start but not yet put the key in the ignition, so it must have some sort of lock

I do like that it will shift to Park if you turn the key off in Drive

not sure that I like it to shift to Park if you open the door while reversing, but I understand why it is set that way (I wanted to see how close I was to the new grass on the edge of the driveway)

Just wait until you accidentally bump it while reaching for something on the console and unknowingly put it in neutral like I did.😲
I did that yesterday. Pedal to the floor - no power - panicked in traffic for about 3 seconds when I realized I was in Neutral. Had visions of throwing a bearing last year in the recalled Hyundai SanteFe.

This is my first vehicle with the rotary gear knob. What I really miss is a place to rest my hand as I drive……..Enter Prototype # 1

Yes, it’s a fake gear shift. A T-handle from Advanced Auto and some Shop Vac adapters that I had laying around the garage. I thought if this was viable, I would get it 3D Printed. I’m not completely sold on my idea, it’s a little too far away from the arm rest and is a bit awkward. Any feed back would be great, plus It needs a name: “Schtickshift, “Faux on the floor” (you see where I’m going here?) I’m sure y’all have some ideas.
Would love to see the look on the valet's face when they go to move it....

I know, but on the next car you buy you'll have to select the driving mode online and there will be a credit card slot for you to pay for the options you use. Welcome to the present.

What do you think the credit card slot on the console is for........lol

Yup, I panicked too and thought the transmission had a problem after reading about some of the trans issues on here.

If You are using vac adapters then maybe experiment with ABS or PVC pipe and either heat it up some or use fittings to get it to sweep back towards your hand at a comfortable location.

Oh and it could be called a ShiftTurd.

I want to air my grievance. I am mildly annoyed that I can spin my gear dial clockwise past the "D" position...

...that is all. Good day.
Yeah, the bronco sport badlands stops rather than keeps spinning. You’d think they’d both work the same. 🤷🏼‍♂️ guess they took a part out of the maverick to keep it cheaper.

Just wait till you accidently spin it into reverse while driving 40mph trying to quickly mop up a bunch of rainwater that drops through the open sunroof and wets the console/gear selector like I did 💦

I never learned how hit the high beams while holding the clutch in.
That move is expertly executed by popping the trans in neutral with right hand at the same time applying brake pressure and taking foot off clutch and down on the high beam switch.

It was designed that way to allow you to turn it to the right without having to look at the dial or dash for selected position. This was how it was explained by the design engineers
I’m more likely to look at it. If it stopped when you reached “D”, I’d feel it and not look. Ram did it correctly. They were the first to go with a dial and claimed they modeled it after semi truck controls, which do not require looking as much as you switch between modes.
If it stopped at P and D, you’d feel it and not need to look to ensure it made it there. But again, the Bronco Sport stops, so I think it was cost saving to have the maverick’s just spin.

Gotcha. I think gear shifters will be a thing of the past in the next 5-10 years.

5 years from now you will just say, put it drive, or park or reverse and it will be done for you. Look at what Alexa has done for internet access.
