Does he say if the nozzle is inserting fully. This is important in many of our day-to-day activities!!! Hopefully not having trouble because the diesel nozzle is larger!o_O

Throwing mud on the wall here to see if anything sticks: Faulty pump if this is not happening all the time?. Tank has more gas in it than the display is showing? Somehow the nozzle is such a tight fit that it is not letting air escape?

I would move to another pump and see what happens; however sounds like it happens all the time

Dime for letting us know what the dealer says!!!!
I had a similar problem like that in my Ford Windstar. Turned out to be a spider nest is my fuel filler tube. Took it to dealer and they flushed it out. Have no idea how they even got in there. If dealer would have gave me a full tank when I picked up that company vehicle they would have caught it. 😱

If nozzle is inserted too far the gas flow particularly at the higher speed can cause the pump to click off. Read the manual and only insert the nozzle to the bend in it. Lifting the handle too high will cause enough turbulence to click it off. Also choose the slow pumping speed when setting the speed clip.

This kids is how you fill the evap system with gas...
I think it’ll be ok if he drives on a smooth level road for a couple gallons. Doesn’t hit any bumps, drive downhill, or make any sharp turns. Sloshing in the tank will get into the EVAP lines…maybe drive gentle laps on an abandoned airstrip? Charge the battery I suppose.

Agree, as the manual instruction shows this in Post #7.

Hahaha the new fangled 2025 fuel gage messed with this 74 yr old retired Lawyer.
Most theologians agree that Ford fuel gauges aren't meant to be taken literally . . .

Turned out to be a spider nest is my fuel filler tube.
Spider eggs are a great fuel additive, increasing MPG by 37% on average!

😜

LOL....has not happened in 60 years I'll take my chances. In case you missed my other post we use to introduce pure gas right into the carbon canister for testing purposes. Never ruined anything.

It never happened to me either in my first 62 years of driving. But it was some sort of EVAP valve that clogged, not the canister. The displayed code didn't bother me at first, know ing what it was, but eventually I couldn't fill my tank in less than 20+ minutes, tenths of a gallon at a time. I don't know if Mavericks have the same type valve and/or where located. On the 2016 F-150 it requires removing truck bed, dropping fuel tank, replacing, defective valve, reassembling. Lessons learned, won't happen again. Live & learn.

Certainly there can be a failure of a part not related to going past the first click.

Like on the Hybrids. One has to open the fuel door from inside to relieve the pressure. If that fails, it's not related to fueling. Just a defective part.

I'm very pleased with my Maverick & there's a lot of quirky things to know, and go wrong, just like any vehicle. I'm sure we've all learned on this forum, providing & receiving knowledge. May we all be safe and enjoy our ride. We're at nearly 10k miles since buying our Mav in April 2025. 50% of the time I get out to refuel, Oops, forgot to press the release button inside. 😅.

My buddy is having a helluva time fueling his 2025 Ecoboost Lariat BAP.

Nozzle shuts off and is super hard to restart. He gets one quarter of a tank in after much trouble. He talked to the dealer, I haven’t seen him since.

Penny for your thoughts.
Make sure the nozzle is jammed all the way in or hold that plastic collar back as you're filling. Personal experience.

I recently filled my new Lariat Hybrid (<1500 mi), being sure to stop when the pump stopped (ie not topping off). Within a handful of miles, I was at the next tick below full (7/8). I know the concerns for overfilling, but I’m going to try a single top-off next time. The hybrid tank is small enough as it is without not filling it all the way.
Unless I hear that 1st click off occur as I hear sounds of the fluid actually getting closer (we don't have fume covers here, so easier to hear), I wait 10 sec and do a 2nd click off.
Too much variability on sensor sensitivity, flow rate, ect.
Besides the 2nd press & lock (I'm not doing it manually) usually slows the rate to cut down on splashing earlier to cause click off.

And the tank is actually more than stated - not on the top side, on the bottom side.
You'll discovery getting over 14 to 15 gal fillups when you hit 0 miles to empty or the easily within range 50 miles beyond "empty".
Just so you don't have to freak out and buy whatever gas is closest - you have time and miles to be picky.

I had thought that my 2002 E-150 had said third click, so I hunted down the owner's manual online.

Not quite what I remembered.

It did recommend sticking to national brands, but rather than three clicks, it actually recommended to not go more than two clicks. (but didn't advise against continuing after the first!)
