I've always stopped at the click unless I know for a fact the click was too soon. Then again, I last put gas in my Maverick on June 13.
There might be something to this. Took the family to Disney two weeks ago, and before we drove into Orlando, I topped off the tank in the Expedition where gas was cheaper. We then parked the Expedition in the Florida sun for a week without moving it. As we were driving out of Orlando, the engine light kicked on, telling me there was a fault with the evaporative emission vapor blocking valve. By the time we got home, the issue went away.
My theory was that we topped off the tank and then parked a black Expedition in the sun for a week, which confused the sensor once we started driving again. So, I can see the thrust of the article having some weight to it.
