Certainly there can be a failure of a part not related to going past the first click. Like on the Hybrids. One has to open the fuel door from inside to relieve the pressure. If that fails, it's not related to fueling. Just a defective part.

LOL....has not happened in 60 years I'll take my chances. In case you missed my other post we use to introduce pure gas right into the carbon canister for testing purposes. Never ruined anything.
