Is my fuel pump possessed? It sometimes cycles with the ignition off (key removed), when I open the door or just walk by the truck. This has happen more than just a few times. Came home yesterday from a 4 day trip, opened the garage door and the pump did its 2-3 second cycle. Is this normal?

All the mavs do this. Yes they are possessed and part of the reason for the batteries giving us fits. Some say its from the key fob in near proximity and the truck is anticipating you starting it. I think they have some wonky programming myself.

They all seem to do emissions testing while parked. I'm pretty sure that the fuel tank is pressurized at some point in the drive cycle or while parked to check for leaks. Perhaps this is a test of the fuel delivery system, to see if it holds pressure. Too much software, too little documentation. Ford doesn't want to concern its customers with the details of the magic within...

Any chance its the fuel tank venting to the canister?

Thanks for your replies. Thought I was going crazy. I agree, this is not a good way to handle things. Especially when it cycles when you walk by the truck (and I did not have my FOB with me during these occasions). I'm now monitoring battery discharge overnight. When I came back from a trip, it took 4 hours to charge the battery at a 4 amp rate. My previous vehicle could sit for 2 weeks and recharge within 30 min. If a float charger (.75 A) can't maintain the charge over night, I'll setup a current meter to see what is actually going on.
