We all do things that are dumb in life. Some dumber than others.... Yesterday, when leaving for an appointment, I was unable to unlock Trucklet Destroyer of Worlds due to a dead battery. The forum posts regarding dead battery issues had now come to me. It was 5 degrees in Chicago. So I added that to a possible cause. In a panic of missing my appointment, I opened the key fob to access the emergency door lock key. The key barely fit into lock slot and wouldn't unlock the door. I was running out of time so I decided to call an Uber and barely made my appointment on time and then Ubered home after ($70). This morning, I spent considerable time researching my truck's owners manual and searching this forum to determine what is the problem with both the truck's battery and the access key. I anticipated calling the dealer for help and maybe a tow. ...Until it came to me ...and I'm embarrassed to admit this.... I had been using my wife's Volvo key. I then went out with the correct key and all is good with the world. Even dumber, in reviewing the manual, images of the Maverick fob were much larger than the key I had torn open. I kept going with the assumption that the 2024 Lariat fob was now flat and half the size (as is the Volvo fob). 🤪🤣🤪🤣🤪🤣

I regularly mix up my Maverick and F-250 fobs because they're the same. I panic when I can't unlock one or the other and then realize I'm using the wrong fob. Life was so much easier when we just used keys. Both my trucks are XLs and use a key for the ignition that I am forever grateful for.

I'm not going to throw any stones at ya, for sure! We've all made errors. Of course you actually made TWO mistakes. The first is w/ the wrong key and what followed. The second is telling everyone here! Cheers!

(And I'm waiting for this to happen in this household. We now have an Escape and a Maverick; the fobs are almost alike, one is a five button and the other is a four button, otherwise they're the same size and shape. I see confusion coming!)

Love it. Takes some self-awareness to be able to laugh at yourself for something like that! Thanks for the chuckle - I've done similar things. Also, fellow Chicagoan here.... waiting on my Mav, and given this weather, I'm actually hoping it's delayed until the beginning of March!

ROTFL. This is right up there with giving your wife a friendly pat on the rear as you catch up to her in the crowd. Only to have her turn around and it's somebody else.

Hmm, I have not done this yet... Of course, I have not used a fob since I left the dealer's lot when I bought the vehicle. I have not touched the fob as it has stayed in the vehicle since July of 22. I use the keypad, and the push button start. I do not live in a high theft area!!

Good thing your wife's boyfriend doesn't have a car or would be extremely confusing with another set of key in mix

When I was coaching soccer I always told my kids that until they could laugh at their mistakes, don't laugh at the other mistakes.

"Trucklet", my wife calls her maverick a " half a truck" 😆

You need to put them on different key chains or put some kind of sticker on them to keep from mixing them up. I tried to get in mine the other day and start it without the fob with me. Thank god it can't pick up the signal from the hall closet or I would have got to where I was going and not have a way to start it up to come back but I think these vehicles have the ability to know if the fob is inside or outside the truck

My FOBs... The choice should have been obvious (the one that says Maverick). ...Brain fart excused.
