We all do things that are dumb in life. Some dumber than others.... Yesterday, when leaving for an appointment, I was unable to unlock Trucklet Destroyer of Worlds due to a dead battery. The forum posts regarding dead battery issues had now come to me. It was 5 degrees in Chicago. So I added that to a possible cause. In a panic of missing my appointment, I opened the key fob to access the emergency door lock key. The key barely fit into lock slot and wouldn't unlock the door. I was running out of time so I decided to call an Uber and barely made my appointment on time and then Ubered home after ($70). This morning, I spent considerable time researching my truck's owners manual and searching this forum to determine what is the problem with both the truck's battery and the access key. I anticipated calling the dealer for help and maybe a tow. ...Until it came to me ...and I'm embarrassed to admit this.... I had been using my wife's Volvo key. I then went out with the correct key and all is good with the world. Even dumber, in reviewing the manual, images of the Maverick fob were much larger than the key I had torn open. I kept going with the assumption that the 2024 Lariat fob was now flat and half the size (as is the Volvo fob). 🤪🤣🤪🤣🤪🤣
Another good reason for push button starting! 😀

I like the design of my 2017 Escapes key better but I guess its good they aren't the same or I would probably do the exact same thing.

been there, done that! Usually hear the explorer locks open when it's parked near by.

I regularly mix up my Maverick and F-250 fobs because they're the same. I panic when I can't unlock one or the other and then realize I'm using the wrong fob. Life was so much easier when we just used keys. Both my trucks are XLs and use a key for the ignition that I am forever grateful for.
I have different keychains on the fobs - Maverick has a Philippine peso; CRV has plastic square with Chinese characters; daughter's Subaru has a DAD chain. Easy to tell the difference

Go easy on yourself. We have all done a number of dumb things. Yeah, this is a head slapper, but no one hurt nor damage to anything but your pride. Unintended consequence? You've just alerted a bunch of people to double check which keys they grab.

It could have been worse if you had decided to break a window to get in.

"Trucklet", my wife calls her maverick a " half a truck" 😆
demitruck?

(personally, I use "trucklette")

My FOBs... The choice should have been obvious (the one that says Maverick).
err, remind me not to ask you to pass me a power tool while I'm under the vehicle!

ROTFL. This is right up there with giving your wife a friendly pat on the rear as you catch up to her in the crowd. Only to have her turn around and it's somebody else.

Just be glad that you didn’t try to insert your “key”!

I have a red piece of webbing attached to my Maverick FOB that says remove before flight so that I know I have the right FOB to get into my Maverick.

Love it. Takes some self-awareness to be able to laugh at yourself for something like that! Thanks for the chuckle - I've done similar things. Also, fellow Chicagoan here.... waiting on my Mav, and given this weather, I'm actually hoping it's delayed until the beginning of March!
Hopefully it doesn't come in on 3/15....
Ides of March, day in the ancient Roman calendar that falls on March 15 and is associated with misfortune and doom. It became renowned as the date on which Roman dictator Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 bce and was further immortalized in the tragedy Julius Caesar by English dramatist William Shakespeare.

My lariat Maverick has the larger fob than the XLT and also has the dealers "buy 4 get one free oil change punch tag" on its key ring.
