Tried filling up twice. Pump shuts off every few seconds, spits gas out. Takes forever to fill. After the 2nd fill, the check engine light came on. Maverick 2023 hybrid.

Don't stick filler nozzle in quite as far. If you hold the pump handle too high up it will restrict the flow and pump will shut off. Also try setting the pump retainer setting to the lower speed.Tried filling up twice. Pump shuts off every few seconds, spits gas out. Takes forever to fill. No one here knows whether the reported concern is a vehicle issue or a pump issue until the OP cuts the problem in half a tries different pumps at different stations. There are a few possibilities for this happening. All of what I have seen in the comments are valid and possible causes. My guess would be a plugged emissions canister or line. The main cause for this is either intrusion from a foreign source such as i read earlier an insect stuck in the vent tube or fuel getting into the canister. The way that this happens and ive seen it come through our shop a lot is over filling the fuel tank. The prevention for this is that when you are filling up and the pump kicks out don't "top it up" by squeezing just a bit more in. I did this for a lot of years and never realized the problem I was causing.
