Fuel pump shuts off while pumping gas.

Tried filling up twice. Pump shuts off every few seconds, spits gas out. Takes forever to fill. After the 2nd fill, the check engine light came on. Maverick 2023 hybrid.

Check your filler pipe for a clog in the vent line (small tube attached to the filler pipe). Common for insect intrusion.

If you are standing out of your door where it's quiet enough - can you hit the fuel release and hear a sound back by the tank area?
Relay is getting thrown to release the pressure just before the door pops - or it should.
Maybe that didn't happen once.
But seems odd a sensor didn't pickup on that, and refuse to open the door.
Or sensor is bad, or relay, or valve.
Seems posters have shared their pics when some of those happen - indeed a dashboard light/warning goes off.

Don't stick filler nozzle in quite as far. If you hold the pump handle too high up it will restrict the flow and pump will shut off. Also try setting the pump retainer setting to the lower speed.

I’ve had that happen on another car I owned years ago, a G35, it would do it when it was hot would act like that. Never found the read reason though.

Possible one of the Evap Emission valves.
