Did they cover that under warranty? Glad you got it working like it should.
They did not. Service advisor said the part was not one covered under the emissions warranty.

No codes for me but....

47,000 miles / 3.1 years

For the first time, gas door would not open. After 30 seconds message on dash "fuel door error, refer to owner's manual (which I assume was to guide you to the manual pull cord).

Being lazy, I pushed the button a second time. 30 more seconds, no open door, same message.

Third press, same.

Fourth and I told myself final button press, now prepared to get on my knees to pull the cord, and it pops open instantly.

Next gas station visit took 2 button presses. It opened on second try.

Next visit to gas station (today) and the door opened instantly on first button press.

🤷🏻‍♂️

That has got to be one of the weirdest problems.
Only thing I can contribute is once you get it fixed stop fueling on the first click.
I learned fast, I get less than a quart of gas more in by clicking twice.

If you top up to get another 1/2 gallon in, then this is an expected failure. The valve is getting filled with fuel and then as it evaporates and leaves deposits, it will cause the valve to stick. The charcoal canister is also getting damaged at the same time. That's owner-caused damage that is not covered under any warranty.

If you fill correctly and stop at the first click-off, then the valve may be legitimately faulty. Its quite rare, but could happen. Because of the owners filling incorrectly, this would also not be covered under any warranty due to an inability to differentiate this situation from the previously-noted owner-caused damage.

I have had the pump click off early when using max fill speed of pump. To prevent the fill tube from backing up and potentially harming the valve I fill using the slowest fill speed of the pump and stop at first click unless I feel like the tank is not over 3/4 full.....

Sounds logical on the surface. But it's not.

What if the pump clicks off every 0.5 gallons? Quite common in states with vapor recovery nozzles.

Service done on July 10th and 11th. They replaced the Fuel Vapor Vent Valve. Cleared the codes. I've had it for 4 days and filled the gas tank with no problems. Also wanted to mention that the fuel door activation now works like its supposed to. Not sure what caused the malfunction of the part , but I'm pleased to have it working again like its supposed to.
If the fuel vapor vent valve is clogged, cannot open, etc the the vapor pressure cannot be bled off necessary for fuel toor release to work properly.

For what it's worth, when I had my problem, I never ever topped the tank off, so it couldn't have been that that caused the problem . I've since traded my '22 in for a '25 hybrid awd.

Ya, this was about a valve to let vapors out from the tank when filling - not sure why everyone was assuming that topping off would even touch it anyway.

But thanks for that followup since it was missed in earlier post.
