I agree that wheel adaptors aren't the best way to go, but my only major concern would be the possibility of some vibration/shimmy from wheel adaptors that weren't precisely machined.
That's why I'd spend the extra money and buy a set of high quality wheel adaptors, to reduce the chance of a less than perfect matchup.

Does the Maverick and Bronco Sport have different thread size for the lug nuts?
I'm seeing M14x1.5 for the Maverick and M12x1.5 for the Bronco Sport.

I noticed there is at least one poster on this forum who has a set of Bronco Sport wheels on his Maverick. The bolt holes in the wheels must be large enough to fit onto the Mavericks M14 bolts.

Someone please answer this for me since I've never bought rims before:

Since I've opted for the XL which comes standard with the 17" steelies, can I slap 18" rims on this thing without an issue?

As long as you follow recommendations on wheel width and offset, along with tire size, no problem at all!

Same here, looking to do some nice ATs that are good in snow and enhance the look at the same time, but worried about the speedo being off by too much and any rubbing. I've seen a few people who have done it and it looks like it should be okay... ?

Does anyone know the largest All Terrain tire that will work on the stock XLT wheels (with a 1" leveling kit on the front of a AWD ecoboost XLT) ? Thanks.
