There are prior posts on this. You are not alone. I too had it happen a few times. It is user error.

I noticed when I unlatched the door, my hand rolled to the left and inadvertently engaged the lock.

Now that I am aware, it has not happened again. The design of the the lock right above the release and the soft touch required to engage the lock contribute to this.
👍
Yep, easy to do. Especially if you have large hands.

And it's Locked

When I get out of the truck, the driver's door locks automatically. It is very annoying to step out for a moment to operate a gas pump, and then turnaround and not be be able to open the door. Fortunately none of the other doors, including the passenger door, lock automatically. Is there a way to disable this?
Put money its your knuckle rolling across the lock lever upon exit . It has been stated many times on this forum , but no one has made it electrically replicate the drivers door on its own ( proven it locks on its own).
I did it my self twice when i first got the truck , simply use 1 finger to pull the lever now , has never happened since.

I posted the video of how it's possible to accidentally lock the door with your hand when opening it. Some maintain, it "auto-locks" electrically.
It sure would be nice if they took the time to video it happening.

I agree with you I'd like to see video on it electrically "Auto Locking"
Example would be getting out of the truck. Leaving the keys on the seat. Closing the door and waiting for it to lock.

Sorry, I was going to make a short video of Reddy Kilowatt pushing the manual lock lever but he is hiding in storage somewhere.

I will agree with most that it is from an accidental push of the lock rocker. It happened to me a few times in the first month of ownership. Once I became aware, it hasn't happened again in 15+ months.

Probably not the problem, but make sure you're not hitting the black Lock lever right above the door opening lever, when you're opening the door.
I too locked it a couple of times "magically". Once I saw a thread about the manual lock, I've not done it since.

I have a bunch of small rubber "feet" (for sticking under an electrical chassis). I'm going to put a couple of them next to that lock button to hopefully keep me from pushing the damn thing. Kudos to this group (y'all) for keeping me up on the situation.

Appears to be human error. As I demonstrated the possibility of in my earlier video.
Here is the Ford service bulletin.

To those folks, that insist it happens automatically.
To those folks I say. Please take a video of it. It can only bolster your claim.

This has happened to me too, more than once, until I got super aggravated at the repeated accidental door locking due to the design/layout of the controls.

When gripping the door lever and opening the door, the side of your hand can accidentally push in the mechanical lock lever and a fingertip can accidentally press the elec lock switch. Aargh!

This ended up being a good excuse to finally get familiar with 3D printing and come up with something useful. Bought the cheapest and most neglected 3D printer I could find on FB Marketplace and spent some time watching YouTube tutorials on the design software.

Measure, draw, print, fit, and repeat. Lots of trial & error involved but I ended up with a simple 2-piece solution that works well in preventing accidental pressing of the lock lever and button.

Original Post as in the first post. As in, it said nothing about opening the doors from the outside.
Well - that SSM says exterior door handle, and not opening.
So ya, from the outside.

So if this issue is occurring, a driver should be able to open one of the other unlocked doors if already unlocked - look at the lock on the driver door - and see it's still actually unlocked.
Doesn't say if the handle won't pull out due to this lock, or it just won't engage the normal open mechanism.

And how is the inertia feature gotten past since it doesn't say?
Does one have to do the Unlock all from passenger side, or pull the door handle from inside?

I'm thinking back, and I can't recall anyone that said the other doors were unlocked, and how they opened the drivers door back open. Of course doubtful anyone noticed the state of the lock on the drivers door.
