So, I went to the bottom of the rhread page and opened an older thread with over 21,000 views!

It was all about the driver door locking "problem" and copied a photo provided by @NoVaJimmy so that I could put it here...it is similar to @Glen Baker LLC photo, just different notes on it!

I Hope this helps...I mean I really, really really hope it helps!

😉

I don't want this thread ending up with 43 or so pages as well...we will have sore thumbs for sure!

Andy
We could all just ignore these "my truck locked me out" threads and then they wouldn't grow to such extremes. As an added bonus the AI bots also wouldn't "read" this stuff and regurgitate it all over the old internet.....

I'm sorry in advance, but, regarding this 🤬 locking issue, sometimes it boils down to being smarter than the equipment your operating...

Rant over... carry on.

Nah, I can't see most of us not helping someone out if they have a question.

We can usually get through it with a good explanation and the illustrative photos and video @Glen Baker LLC has put together.

And everytime we get a few more who jump in with their questions and get helped as well so I suppose that is a win as well.

I also know I am not here as a moderator or someone who will decide if a question is worthy...I prefer the give and take as we explore the issue at hand till hopefully come to a successful conclusion.

Have a great day,

Andy

when I went back to open the driver's door it was locked.... I went to the passenger door and it was not locked
The accidental locking had plagued me too. I got super irritated and fixed it. Made a simple 2-piece 3D printed solution that works well in preventing accidental pressing of the lock lever and button. Took a bunch of iterations though, like anything worthwhile does.

Read more about it here. They're available If anyone else wants a set.

If you're like me and don't want to have to be conscious of the design shortcomings of the vehicle and mindfully compensate for them - it's been more than a year since I installed these and I haven't had an inadvertent locking incident since. Stick 'em and forget 'em.

Andy - the bracket/holder for the tool - did that come with the tool, or is it something you 3d printed, or... ?

Hello @Chopperbobc

Edit added

as I addressed the wrong member in my post! (Sorry about that)

Hello @Lane I just edited this as I saw upon review that you were looking for the window breaker info.

End edit

Nice mod you came up with and printed, and I get it...it takes a few tries to get something just the way you want it! And those 2 parts could really help some people with their driver door lock issue.

The emergency window breaker I have is all one package that I picked up at Canadian Tire.

I quickly looked it up so I can attach some extra photos for you.

I believe it be a Canadian Tire branded item. So this particular item might only be available at a Canadian Tire.

It is dirt cheap at under 10.00 CAD before tax, so I can't complain about that!

Have a good one and I am glad if I helped you out,

Andy

Thanks guys...... I do not know about the.. locking lever.. but I will look for it tomorrow..... why would you need a locking lever..... and why would you only want to only lock the driver door...
Oh....and to fully answer your original post..." Would this be a safety feature so you could not drive away with the tailgate down"...... NO.....

Stand back off gents. I got this one. 😁

You unknowingly Pushed the Lock LEVER as you pushed open your door.
This is a very common phenomenon NEW owners discover with the Ford Maverick and the Bronco Sport, because of similar door handle design. Allowing the driver to unconsciously, accidentally, mistakenly, inadvertently lock his door while pushing it open.😱
The fact that you state, the passenger door was unlocked.' confirms 100% beyond the shadow of a doubt. That you accidentally locked the driver's door by unknowingly pushing the lock lever while pushing open the door when you got out of the truck.😉 👇👇

It happens easily. Especially now in cold weather gloves on.

Ford recognized the issue as owner induced and issued the Below Service Bulletin

Tom,
Not that much more can be added but, if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to post them.

GB
Well done!
Never had a vehicle where this happened before... but this one happens all the time... even if I try not to. Maybe Ford will resign the lock/handle on future updates.

I guess I got into habit years ago with opening with door grabber - just in case the wind was the wrong direction and opening mid-door with handle would rip it right out of my hands.

Of course a habit of parking correctly for the wind would be a smarter one to develop - but eh.

Plus pushing mid-door on a heavy door - I prefer farther back.

So the accidental lock only happened once very early on before I decided how I was opening this door.

A few days ago I got out of my Maverick and left all doors unlocked.... I dropped the tailgate and left it down for 2 days while it was in the garage..... when I went back to open the driver's door it was locked.... I went to the passenger door and it was not locked and I was able to get in with no problem..... I know that there have been many posts about the locking problems but since the passenger door was not locked confused me..... only the driver's door was locked.....,Would this be a safety feature so you could not drive away with the tailgate down...
We have a 2025 XL and the there is no way to accidentally "lock" the door when one gets out. There is a significant distance between the buttons and the door lock button and mine has locked me out on a couple of occasions. I purchased the add-on buttons to unlock in case this happens again. Fortunately both times I had my phone in my pocket.

You read the first post but not any of the following 50. Got it.

If it truly wasn't possible, there wouldn't be a new thread exactly like this every month or two.

Every month or two!

@Carlitos_92, I love that optimism...what is this, day three since the last thread and we always get a couple jump ins once it starts...and I think we just sorted that one out...

so now let's see if this is the same issue where:

-the door gets accidentally locked when they actuated the "manual driver door lock lever"

(not the electronic door lock button!)

Let me see, I think I still have the pic that is similar to @Glen Baker LLC assistance photos...

@jpt5775 please humour us and have a look at the photo below and then go out to look at the door latches on your truck...the common cause of the accidental driver door lock has always been by accident! ThE MANUAL DOOR LOCK LEVER is very easy to lock if pressed by your hand.

Please, just go look at the truck door and compare to the Pic I posted here.

If this isn't the root cause of only the driver door locking on you, please let us know.

Andy

Ps a good way to check is if the driver door is locked unexpectedly, go try the other doors...they should be unlocked for you to gain access (unless you changed the truck setting to only driver door unlocks automatically).

We had the issue for a while on the 22 but software update took care of it even though some people said it didn't' Our 24's had the issue a few times but not in a long time now. I have heard it lock as I walked away.

Good day @mikellmikell

Okay, let's sort this out a bit so we don't get issues crossed.

Please look at the photo above, observe the items circled.

This, and most likely thousand of threads/replies have to deal with THE DRIVER DOOR (ONLY) locking the driver out unexpectedly.

This has always been caused by the human behind the wheel inadvertently depressing the MANUAL DOOR LOCKING LEVER, usually when they push the driver door open.

This can be proven if the driver just walks to any of the other doors. The other doors should be open/unlocked.

This has nothing to do with accidentally pressing the ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK BUTTON ON THE DRIVER DOOR....it does indeed lock all the doors.

Any other door locking issues such as doors locking mysteriously as you walk away (you stated you have heard the door locks click as you walk away) are unrelated and deserves its own thread.

FOR THE DRIVER DOOR LOCKING all by itself, take another look at the photo provided.

Thank you, and let us know if your issue is different!

Andy

Here is another photo as above, just in case another look is needed.
