Pin on top works, to keep it from unfolding. I didn't like the 2x6. It didn't give me enough usable room between it and the tailgate for storage. Couple bags of softener salt took up half the area.

My folding slide out tray pictured. Works best for me. With 27"of room from the tailgate forward VS only 15"
with the 2x6 or 2x4

Not my original idea, saw a photo of it elsewhere and decided to build my own. Sharing my build instructions after someone else asked me for them. Lots of room for tweaking. Gotta love the FlexBed! Total time, about a hour for me with table saw and power tools.

Materials:
  • Two 2x4" 6' or longer pieces of wood
  • 6-20+ 6" deck screws

Tools:
  • Screwdriver (hand, power)
  • Saw (hand, power)
  • Drill (Pilot holes makes things easier)

Assembly:
  1. Cut two 54 1/8" pieces from the lengths, optional cut corners from one side of a length. I have a lined bed, for bare metal bed you might want to go slightly longer. Test that the long boards fit in and out easily before proceeding, you may need to trim a little off. Better to start longer and shorten as needed.
  2. Cut one, or more, 4" pieces from the remaining wood. I used 5 total.
  3. Place all the pieces flat, small pieces between the lengths. Put one piece at each end, then space rest along length as you desire.
  4. Drill pilot holes into edges of lengths where you will be putting spacer blocks.
  5. Screw from edges into the spacer pieces. You can get away with one screw but I used two from each side.

Optional:
  • Cut corners off edges to allow divider to rest against bed, or leave corners to have divider float 1/2" above bed.
  • Stain, paint, weather treat wood, or use treated wood.
  • Affix eye bolts or hooks along length of bar to affix bags, straps or other items to.
  • Add cut material, rubber, etc. to ends so they don't scrape sides of bed.
  • @k2rizzle pointed out some nice hooks that work well with this. https://a.co/d/ehdnsBF
  • Screw in feet (or similar) can go on bottom to lift from bed, or sides to adjust width to fit.

Emergency uses:
  • Fuel for fire. 🔥
  • Weapon. âš”
  • Stakes for defense against vampires. 🧛‍♂️

Impressive -vVery interested in doing something like this. Question though: how is a 2x4 thick enough for the vertical grooves of the bed, or sidewall? Does it rattle and yaw, or is it a tight fit?

can you post a pic or instructions? i would have to pin mine off-center because of the block thereabouts. not sure how much more hate that would get me, but would off-set the license plate more! 🤣
Since you asked him about his fold-in-the-middle divider, I figured you wouldn’t mind if I shared the one I made as well. This is a great thread 🙂

Here’s the one I made, using plywood strips that someone gave me:

The latch is something I found at Lowe’s, and the hinges and screws I already had on hand.

It’s a little more flexible than I would like, but it works really well.

No Northern Tool trailer has a receiver or Harbor Freight trailer or my bike rack.
The most consumer rented trailer in the country U-Haul none of their trailers have a receiver in the back.

Even if I were to pry out the plug that the reflector is on it's too small to accept the Curt plate Mount.

I'm not saying that trailers aren't out there that have a two inch receiver.
Custom made of course commercial probably.
In my opinion the curt receiver hitch license plate holder is useless.
Having to move your license plate around because you're going to tow something. Especially when the truck has a perfectly good license plate mounting position on it.
Some states require your plate to be visible at all times unless towing. I had a company make a plate to match what I have, just to avoid being pulled over for something so dumb.

The Ford flip over bed extender that came with my 2024 Lariat, a $300 plus option. I drove my Maverick home and immediately hung that contraption on my basement wall. It looks great there.
Not used once.

As for the OP’s wood divider, that looks very useable.
I’d have to paint it black.
And yeah the center support needs to be off sided.
He better get a patent on that~

it slides right into the grooves in the sides put sideways. i used 2x4", some used 2x6" and i saw a post with a 2x10". mine is not a completely snug fit or i wouldn't be able to get it back out. i just want it to keep items close to the tailgate from sliding all the way forward and i can't reach them. groceries and the like. ford designed the "flexbed" with things like this in mind. the notches over the wheel wells take flat 2x6"'s for a shelf. you can find more ideas here.

Thanks for the idea and the detailed instructions - I got mine done today (also not a carpenter)! Did make it a little shorter to work with bed cover. 🙏

Looks great. Short. Tall. As long as it keeps what you want where you want it's all good! What cover is that, like it?
