I am thinking of going with two 2x4s and taking them to Linex and having them spray the 2x4s as well when I have the spray-in bedliner done. I saw in the forum that I should have the 2x4s cut to 54.25 inches. Three questions:

1. Do you think is a good idea to have the 2x4s sprayed?
2. Do you think the length is correct?
3. Do you think 2x4s are better than one 2x6 or 2x8. I am thinking the 2x4 would be easier to remove or move but will being separate make them more prone to shake and make noise?

Thanks

I use (2) 2 x 4's with no problem. They are much easier to remove. Yes, that is the correct length. As far as spraying goes, since mine came with bedliner already sprayed, I just used Flexseal and sprayed them and they came out ok.

It's a good idea but check with your local shop. You might not get much of a deal for doing it at the same time as the SIBL. I checked about this near me and it was going to be the same rate based on time and material which wouldn't change whether I did it with the bed or at a later time.

Your local shop might be different and it's going to be the best place to get a definitive answer. Stop by sometime. Meet the person who will spray your truck if you haven't yet.

If you want it to match the bed exactly, take it to the shop. I can't think of a better way. If you want some more flexibility with scheduling and/or you want to save a buck, maybe look into spraying (or honestly just painting) it yourself. Lots of good inspiration on this site.

Been discussed before in previous posts. A lot of pictures to help you get an idea of what each setup looks like.

Personally went with a single 2x6x10 cut and painted. Cheap to replace, does the job well, can be removed easily when carrying a load in the bed.

Thanks for sending those links. Do you think the spray on material will add enough to the length to make a difference or should I cut the wood a 1/4 inch shorter?

No problem. It would add some thickness, but might only work out to 1/8-1/4" maybe? For ease of removing I would say no to spraying the sides to allow easier sliding in\out of the slot.

The bigger issue is the DIY dividers moving back and forth in the slots, and making noise. Like others I added some foam pipe insulation to help reduce the noise while driving.

I decided to use 2x8 and found that it's quite heavy and not easy to insert/remove. So, I agree that (2) 2x4's would be a lot easier to handle. I wish I had taken that path...

Anyways, instead of painting, I wrapped it using a roll of heavy duty black duct tape. I thought it would be a good match to the factory spray-in bedliner, help with the snug fit and also dampen any rattles. So far so good. :)

Thanks. The duct tape sounds interesting. Can you post a pick when you get a chance. Also, did you duct tape the ends too? Do that change you cut from 54.25 in.?

So I can clearly understand... you added the pipe insulation to the bottom of the 2x6 or to the sides?

Top corners. Could be much better but helps for now.

I bought a can of brush-on bedliner from an auto parts store. It's enough to pant 2x4 bed dividers for me and 25 of my Maverick buddies. Looks great, I think it's water-tight, and I'll never be heartbroken if I accidentally lose it someplace.

I didn’t want the weight or bulk of 2x4s so I use 2 tension shower curtain rods. They work great, keep my large cooler from sliding back and I can adjust them to fit anywhere or remove them. I tuck them to the side when I’m hauling a big load. Been using these for 15 months now.

Great idea! I was thinking about this myself, although I was just going to spray pressure-treated 2x4s with Undercoating.
