I checked all combinations to include 4k tow and they all spec'd the 8F35. Seems like Ford is rolling the dice with this one. Tuning sounds like a disaster waiting to happen and what will Ford care once they see that the start counts have been reset in the ECU, a clear indication of a tune overwrite. Warranty repair DENIED!
Most don't give a shit. You are either into modding your car/truck or you aren't.

If one is tuning and cranking up the power on their Maverick and the 8F35 fails, why would one even bother with FORD warranty? Perfect time to upgrade if you ask me.

This unit looks beautiful though, well done.

I think it's more along the lines of most are naïve and don't know any better. The crowd that throws a tune in their brand new ecoboost Maverick is more likely to be the younger crowd and maybe they've never owned a new vehicle or tried to make a warranty claim or realize that the 8F35 is underspecd for stock power levels let alone tuned power levels and don't realize that it could be close to $10k to replace the transmission in their $25k financed Maverick.

I'm sure you're right and some don't care at all like Mr. Boom etc but I'm just putting this out there to maybe save some young less savvy Maverick owner some heartache and a financial mess.

This is not your job but from reading your posts in other threads you constantly feel the need to worry and hypothesize the infinite what-ifs. You're in almost every other thread pondering and speculating so many hypotheticals. It will be what it will be. This thread has nothing to do with tuning and now you're rambling on about that making it appear as though Buschur is praying on some specific individuals which he most certainly is not. Just take a breather from the internet once in a while.

LOL speculating? The 8F35 is designed and rated for engines up to 260 lb-ft of torque. The Ecoboost 2.0 puts out what? Oh, right, 277 lb-ft from the factory before any tuning. There's no speculation there my friend. I'm not making it seem like anything. I agreed that some people tuning don't care and I'm sure Buschur is a great tuner. I'm just putting the info out there for people who don't know. Also, I'm not the one who brought up transmissions here. Go away ya schill.

This market on these trucks, from our customer base is all "older" for sure. I've spoken to more "old" guys than young and we've moved quite a lot of parts already. I'm 55, I'd say most of the guys I've talked to are older than me.

I'm 34, and most people I know interested or already own are older than me.

Everyone seems to have the same reason for liking the Maverick so much. And that's because it's what the Ranger used to be. A small daily usable pickup truck.

Not a lot of the younger folks probably even remember the original Ranger.

I had a 95 and LOVED it. It was compact but still usable. It had the 4.0 but was an extended cab auto 4wd with crappy 3.27 gears. It was a dog. The Maverick weighs only slightly more than it did so even the Hybrid should move better than that old Ranger ever did.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that ford probably didn't install a transmission that is overloaded from the factory in a vehicle with an OEM trailer brake controller.

Someone will eventually grenade their transmission and then we'll know roughly where the limit is. Looks like theres a heavier duty option for a swap candidate.

You would be out on a large branch not a small limb, and I am there with you in the doubtful camp.

This is not the first model with the 2.0EB /8F35 combo, with the same discussions about an under-rated transmission.

I have not searched in a while, but I never found any official FOMOCO data on the 8F35 giving torque or hp ratings.

Generally everyone is citing a couple of articles from trade magazines, and even there the authors are discussing the design targets they were told that Ford was after, not what the actual limits to the different versions of the 8-speed were. These are older articles at this point as well.

What can be found in Ford docs are numerous factory installations where the motor torque is higher than the supposed 8F35 trans limit mentioned in those old magazine articles. Doesn't add up, unless of course the trans is actually more capable than so many have assumed.

Awesome work @Buschur !

There can be different variations in the same model transmission as well. On the super dutys they use a 10r140 for the diesel and gas engines, yet the trans are different internally and have different torque converters. The torque difference in the engines is substantial, the diesel is over double the gas. Anyway it is hard to tell what the actual torque rating is unless you could talk to an engineer at Ford to lookup your exact configuration.

The amount of variations on many current transmissions is a great point and possibility.

Very true and good points all around.

Something I will add for those curious; the Lincoln Corsair, the only US Spec vehicle currently equipped with the transversely mounted 2.3L + AWD, surprisingly has much the same parts as our 2.0L Mavericks, I'm talking same intake, same junk intercooler, same restrictive downpipe, BUT it does have a different turbo of course, and also it has an 8F40 transmission. Now I know a lot of folks are saying the 2.3L Lincoln is tuned down from what it could be, at least in this application, same could be said for our Mavericks' 2.0L though maybe? Anyways, Ford/Lincoln has a slightly different transmission in that one for some reason or another.. Why? Well it's hard to say because although the 2.3L in the Corsair is @ 310 lb-ft of torque vs. the 2.0L @ 280 lb-ft, if we go off of the numbers 8F35 is assumed rated for 350 Nm which translates to ~258 lb-ft, 8F40 would be 400 Nm or 295 lb-ft. Both of those basic assumptions are still less than the engines they're mated to.

Eventually, someone will find the weak link(s) and rebuild/improve on them, and those of us who wish to mod will benefit as a result.

Now, back to that different turbo on the Corsair, I'm wondering if that's worth the effort for one to fit to their Maverick? For the cost new, likely not but I'm sure somebody will try it in time.

We have our cores, tanks and now the CNC'd fittings in stock for front mount builds! They are $899 and are ready to be ordered, we build them to order.

Also, I need ONE volunteer who would like one installed for FREE, we will need your truck for two days. We need to make an installation manual with pictures, that's why we are offering this. The install otherwise would be $600, one lucky guy can get it done free.

You can contact me here or phone/text at the number in my signature.
