Brake fluid flush at 42K WTF?

The recommended duration is 2 years or 30k. Not sure why any of this is viewed as ridiculous?

I view it as ridiculous because brake fluid takes on moisture based on time in service, not mileage, as reflected in Ford's scheduled maintenance as 3 years.

But every maintenance guide has a mileage suggestion. Same as an oil change it's either time or distance, whichever come first. It seems like very basic maintenance to me. 8 don't know why you would push back on servicing the thing that stops the car. Ford recommendation is 3 years OR 36,000 miles.

I'm not pushing back on anything. I'm following the 3 year recommendation. Again, moisture absorption of brake fluid is based on time in service not mileage.

I just checked, and it doesn't - you are correct. If you were to Google the question the response comes back at 3 years or 36,000 miles. Most maintenance guides suggest 3 years regardless of mileage. Personally, I think that sounds reasonable. Changing the brake fluid at 42k for the first time hardly seems like anything other than good preventative maintenance. Your opinion may vary.

I'll comment the printed 24MY owner's manual does NOT mention Brake fluid - actually the whole section in the updated PDF or online manual for Scheduled Maintenance - is NOT even there with info in the printed - merely a call out to the website schedule - which is poorly done too and did NOT list brake fluid, nor many things.

Not until the 25MY manual was out with that section did someone seem to discover the pre-25's were missing info, and the online and PDF got updated.

Did you find an early 22MY printed manual that is giving these changing figures?

There is a manual on the Ford App for my 2024 that shows 3 years for brake fluid. It does not have a mileage listed, I made a mistake. I don't think the Ford dealership suggesting a brake flush at 42k, regardless of age, is anything other than a good suggestion for preventative maintenance based on the mileage. They didn't force the service, just suggested it might be a good idea. They aren't trying to swindle anyone. Do whatever you want with your truck. This is not a 6 page issue.

I'm a fan of fresh brake fluid. ABS units are rarely serviceable, and dry fluid is the only viable way to protect them. In my area, the sweet spot on intervals is every 3 years or so, regardless of mileage. I've actually had pretty good results using one of those cheap pen-style testers that report water content up to 4%. If your brake fluid changes color, you have ALREADY taken serious damage to your service brakes.
