So far in 2025, Ford has sold 98,078 examples of the Maverick, an 8.9% increase over the same period in 2024. In July, Ford sold 12,022 Mavericks. Over at Hyundai, only 16,532 Santa Cruz trucks have been sold so far this year, a 20% decrease over 2024. In July alone, Hyundai only managed to sell 2,311 trucks.

Ford recalls are crushing the competition! Ford is out doing every other manufacturer ten to one!

If anyone wants a Hyundai Santa Cruz (not me) you better get ‘er bought.
I wouldn’t expect them to be on the market much longer with such dismal sales numbers.

My July purchase is part of the 12,022. I did not even consider a Santa Cruz after giving it an obligatory once over.

I also knew that Maverick Recalls far outnumber Santa Cruz Sales. But I rolled the dice (also purchased my first ever extended warranty of my long vehicle buying career).

The Santa Cruz didn't have a hybrid option so it wasn't in the running. If they had a hybrid I would have given it a look. It does have some features that would be nice like that below the bed compartment.

Why am I not surprised? The SC is more expensive, uglier, still doesn't offer a hybrid, has a slightly smaller bed and isn't any more reliable than the Maverick, especially the turbocharged 2.5L.

Totally agree. I don't have any $ figures, but I'd wager Hyundai is probably losing money on the Santa Cruz once you factor in R&D, ads, etc.

The Hyundai’s and Kia’s are crap.
They’re Fine until they hit 120,000 miles.
The Hundai engines start to leak and AND often burn oil badly. Not every one of them but too many.

I have three friends that own the Santa crap, All three are screwed. Engine issues keep them from getting anywhere near a good trade in value.
They are stuck still paying off a car that goes through a quart of oil every other tank of fuel.

I shit you not !

A/C is out in one, expensive compressor needed.
All three go through oil.
One needs coolant added once a month, about a quart. The dealer says they can’t find a leak. I drove it, feels like it needs a tune up but this one has only 65,000 miles.

Their steel is so full of sand the vehicles are unsafe in a hard crash after only six years of heat cycling. They are like the Soviet made cars. All throw away vehicles.
And they look like everything else.
I personally think the Santa Cruz is butt stank Fugly.

Fugly means effin ugly :XD

My 2024 Ecoboost AWD Lariat purchased on 12/31/24 has had Zero recalls or problems.
So far.

Not even gonna talk about the Kia junk. That car is for the customer the sales crew love, the ones who ask only one question.
‘How much is my payment going to be ?”

I kind of hope they keep making the Santa Cruz. The Maverick needs some competition, even if it's weak competition. The Santa Cruz is not my cup of tea so to speak. But I see why some people would want it. In my opinion the Maverick seems like a modern-day version of the Ford courier or original Ranger concept. Whereas the Santa Cruz seems more in the spirit of a ranchero or El Camino.

I never considered the Sante Cruz. I am not a Hyundai fan and I find the style atrocious, but I agree with Darryl that any competition for the Maverick pushing it to improve and innovate in future iterations is a good thing.

The magic of the Maverick is that Ford made it feel like a Ford truck with the company appropriate exterior styling, heavy truck like steering, Ford familiarity on the interior - with a truck like dash.

If you have driven an F-150 in the last 25 years, the Maverick felt like home.

That tiktok stolen vehicle thing really killed Kia and Hyundai. It's hard to overcome a viral trend like that, even if it was fixed.

Honestly, I would prefer either Chevy, Toyota, or Ram to come out with competition so that Ford stays on top of their game. However, I have not seen any indication they plan to. I think Ram is still looking to bring back the Dakota, but that would compete more with the Ranger.

I see lots of Santa Cruzes around here, so I'm surprised they're selling that poorly, but even with a midgate, a 4-foot bed seems kind of ridiculous. I guess the Ridgeline is in a different class from either Santa Cruz or Maverick, and it costs a lot more. Those are common here, too.

But yeah, recalls are hurting Ford sales.
Maybe and maybe not. I don't worry about recalls. It just means a free fix, new part, or upgrade for my vehicle from Ford.

Didn't Toyota announce they were going to come out with a Mav competitor?
