And at 6720, the Maverick didn't have a "great" month.
A lot has to do with pricing, and the Mav is so competitively priced, it will probably always out sell competitors.

The Maverick is more desirable than the Santa Cruz for a few reasons:

#1 The Maverick comes in a hybrid.
#2 Pickup guys like ... well pickups. The Santa Cruz styling is out there for traditional pickup buyers.
#3 The Maverick has a more useful bed. The "storage compartment" in the SC bed isn't very large.
#4 Price. Want power? You can get a base Maverick with FWD and a 250 hp turbo motor. To get the turbo in the SC you are paying on average $10k more than the maverick.
#5 MPG. The Maverick 2.0L Ecoboost has better EPA numbers even than the non-turbo 2.5L SC with 59 more hp to boot.
Nailed it!!!

Lame duck MYs until the 6th gen drops and maybe prioritizing the Bronco.
sacrificial lamb :( People will just wait for the Ranger 24 . Honestly I don't even see the point producing the MY 23s unless there's a ton incentives thrown at it . Like 3-4k off MSRP , 0.9% or something like that. A few colors wont change anybody's minds about this gens ranger heck its losing cyber yellow .

I very well might've gone with the SC instead of the Maverick if Iit'd come in a hybrid, or at the least not had abysmal mpgs. I think is awful rating for gas mileage was a huge killer. You can't sell an "urban adventure vehicle" when it only gets low to mid 20s.
I think there may be a few reasons that attribute to the bad gas mileage of the Santa Cruz:

1) The tires are 245 width tires. A wider tire creates more resistance with the road. I see many Maverick owners going for larger tires for looks or better off road performance, but be aware if you do so you are going to lose 1-2 mpg most likely.
2) Low gearing possibly. I test drove an AWD SC non-turbo SEL. It seemed to be pretty low geared like 40 -45 mph and below. Perhaps that is why the tow rating is higher than the Maverick?
3) The AWD SC is about 400 lbs heavier than the Maverick.

I like the looks of the SC. But sometimes car makers choose styling over practicality. I think that roll up tonneau cover on the SC is bad. Sure it is convenient and might work for some, but the box it retracts into takes up even more precious space in an already short bed. They should have went with a hard trifold or roll up cover like Ford offers.
