also it takes less time to do it myself. My local dealership has long lines. I would imagine at least 2 hours for an oil change and tire rotation. Yes they have free coffee but ....
How much time does it take you to buy the supplies, do the work, and properly then dispose of the waste? And you would "imagine" Certainly that could happen. But most Ford dealers or even the better quick lubes can have you done in far less time.

I'm going in to the dealer for my first oil change on Monday. I understand peoples concerns with the quality of service these days. However I'm getting to the age where changing oil is not an activity that I find enjoyable anymore.

Hopefully it all goes ok for me and my Maverick.

I got my oil and filter from walmart while I shop for other things. Plus, with the amount of miles I'm driving I'll be going to change oil every 3 months. Going to a quicklube that often is not very enjoyable.

Well worth it.

It's still way cheaper and faster to do your own. If you get a fumoto type valve it's even faster and easier.

My hats off to you 👍😀. When I got my my Hybrid Maverick I put about 1400 miles on it got that crappy little filter and oil out to get any metal shaving dirt and crap out of the engine ☠☠. Went on a 5000mile trip from TN to NV. Changed again . Just at 14000 mile now and changes it again. Always use 100% Syn Oil with a 15000. To 20000 mile Syn Oil filter . Some will say that over doing it but to me Good oil and filter , keeping the Engine cool no bug or dirt on the radiator or engine is the life blood of the Engine 😀👍👻. Unless it's one of the hybrids that goes boom and burns up ⁉☠🔥😱

Did about 5k miles and 8 months on the break in oil, no issues or cause for concern there. But I agree, while there's no longer a need to change the break in oil after a few thousand miles, it's important to stay on top of fluid changes.

The amount of effort, bullshit, hassle and thought someone will put into saving $75 is mind boggling to me. My time and sanity for not having to do this in freezing cold, or do something that might jeopardize my warranty is not even close to being worth it.
How do you feel about car washes?

You can't discount the main advantage of DIY oil changes which gives one the satisfaction of knowing it was done right.

The last and only time I paid to have an oil change was at a dealership when the jack leg mechanic forgot to tighten the drain plug. Got home just in time to notice the puddle of oil in my driveway. Never again.

I try to time my oil changes so they occur in the winter rather than the crazy hot days of South Carolina summers.

I did my breakin oil change at 4258 miles, with mobil 1 advanced full synthetic. But I did not reset the oil life at that time. Just curious when it's time to change the oil according to onbaord computer.
Yesterday I changed oil again at 9782 miles. This is my second oil change on this maverick awd 2.0. I still used mobil 1 advanced full synthetic. Was thinking about Pennzoil but since I already used mobil1 in my first oil change, I need to have some consistency.
Still hated that 15 screws. It's a pain to align all the screw holes after you did the oil change.
For oil filter I used Mobil 1 M1-102A. The filter is rated for 20k miles between the change.
I'm driving about 3k miles per month.
I calculate my next oil change will happen a little over 3 months from now. I don't plan to let ECU to remind me for an oil change. This time, at 9782 miles, the ECU is saying there's only 24% oil life remain. Since I already did an oil change without resetting the oil life, 24% isn't as bad as it sounds. I will do my next oil change at about 18k~19k, approximately 9k miles from now. By then the oil life will probably be around 30%.
Since it'll be early Jan when I do the next oil change, I think I'll do it a different way. Instead of jacking up the car in snow and crawl under it in bitter cold wind, I will just suck out the oil from the dipstick. I do have an oil pump which I haven't really used.
That way I don't have to remove that 15 screws again. It'll be a pain in the butt if your fingers are frozen.
But with the pumping method I won't be able to change the filter, which is probably fine. Since the filter is rated 20k miles. The next oil change will happen early Apr of 2024 which I will go jack up the truck, crawl under there, remove that 15 screws, drain oil and change filter.

Plan to do this in this alternate method. Once pumping, next time regular oil and filter change, then pumping again.
I will only be removing those hated screws once every 7 months.
Just a thought,if you bought the truck new, your Ford pass points is enough to pay for 2 factory oil changes.

I buy my own oil & filter and take it to my local auto shop and it costs me only $18 for them to change the oil & filter, and check tire pressure, and fluids.

I have a 2.0 fwd and mine doesn’t have a dust shield. I was wondering if it is suppose to have one?

Well, if you DIY, you know what you are pouring into the engine. I kinda not trusting they put good qualify full synthetic oil at the oil change place, or dealership. There was once that a quicklube place didn't change my filter(it was another vehicle, years ago).
With a new car the filter doesn't need to be changed every time. Use a good quality filter like mobil 1, you can change it every other time.
Changing the filter is as important as changing the oil.... Possibly more so.

some people like to do that on their own and surprisingly it’s not about the money as you profess….

If you had your oil changed it is likely the oil change jockey left it off. Look for the metal clips under there that it screws to.
