I just changed the breakin oil in my 2023 hybrid and noticed the my under body shield has an opening below the drain plug , I still had to remove the shield to change the filter . I suppose I could change the filter every other oil change if I wanted to. Ford must have made this change recently because I have seen videos of maverick oil changes and have not seen this opening. My maverick was built 7/10/23 fyi.

I buy my own oil & filter and take it to my local auto shop and it costs me only $18 for them to change the oil & filter, and check tire pressure, and fluids.
I get mine done at the dealer as part of my purchase price. I have $29.95 oil changes as long as I own the vehicle. And I plan on owning it a long time. My last one lasted 15 years (280K) before I sold it.

Did about 5k miles and 8 months on the break in oil, no issues or cause for concern there. But I agree, while there's no longer a need to change the break in oil after a few thousand miles, it's important to stay on top of fluid changes.
I just changed my breakin oil at 1500 miles and after looking at the bottom of the drain pan I don't regret it. This was the first time I did the first oil change on a new truck , it's probably normal to see metal fragments and bits of god knows what , during the first oil change but I'm glad I didn't leave it go for 10,000 miles. I let the dealer do the oil changes on my last new truck for the first 5 years and that truck still had the factory oil filter on it the first time I changed the oil myself, so it's going to be diy as far as oil changes go for my new Maverick.

So true. Some dealer service people don't change the oil filter, and customer would not be able to find out. But with modern technology the filter dosen't need to be changed with every oil change, especially if you are using a good quality filter made for synthetic oil.
