I understand that the 12v battery in our Mavericks is an AGM. Guess that means I can't use my 45 yo Heathkit Automatic batter charger. Damn that thing served me well.

Incorrect. It's a filled type battery. Source: I replaced mine for an AGM so your trusty charger will charge on.

That's great! Not sure where I read that. I have seen agm for motorcycles but never car size. Thank you.

Keep in mind that I have an ecoboost which has a completely different 12v battery size than your hybrid. That being said I purchased an Interstate. They didn't have the Maverick in their system yet so I just spec'd a Bronco Sport Badlands since it has the same 2.0 and battery from the factory.

What's the big advantage in an agm anyway. I know you can mount it in any position. But what else? Like maybe for replacement times I'd do it. But not to replace an good battery.

An AGM can survive a deep discharge that would otherwise kill or damage a flooded battery. They're also able to be charged up to five times faster than a flooded battery. The significant advantage there is that you can update the BCM in the maverick with forscan to let it know you're running an AGM battery which in turn will allow the charging system to "give it the beans" and hopefully negate running into any deep sleep issues.

Mmmm very interesting. Thanks for the info. So you cannot just swap one for the other and call it a day. Sounds like it would be great for a marine application

Not sure what 'AGM' stand for, but sounds like a possible fix for the deep sleep problem. One obstacle of which I cannot seem to get an answer to is how to get the revised Forscan codes into the Maverick's system.
I'm thinking I'll wait for Ford to address the issue and keep things factory.

The EB Maverick's come with this battery, BHEF-48H6, which is an "Enhanced Flooded Battery." This EFB battery is designed to handle start-stop systems. AGM's can outperform EFB's and can be used to replace them.

Here a link to a BatteriesPlus article that gives a good rundown on this subject.

Can I Replace an EFB Battery with an AGM Battery?

It stands for advanced glass mat I think. It uses a gel instead of a liquid electrolyte. Need special chargers tho and a charging system in the car geared for it.

I thought the Maverick (at least hybrids) have an AGM battery. I’m sure the part number be fired that. Am I wrong?
