I own a 20223 Maverick XLT Hybrid. I scheduled an appointment for replacing the side curtain airbags under the recall notice. Four days prior to the appointment, the check engine light comes on, and the code indicates the Exhaust Heat Exchanger Exhaust Bypass Valve "a" Position Sensor Circuit. Two days later, the vehicle will not start. When I jumped the 12V battery, the initial battery reading was 4.8V. The Dealer replaced the battery indicating a faulty battery (this was after operating the vehicle for 9 months). Two weeks later, the vehicle would not start, and the new battery had a voltage of 5.2V. The dealer again replaced the battery indicating a faulty battery again.

Two weeks later I noticed the auxillary lighting did not come on when the doors opened, and the 12 V battery tested ~9V. I took the vehicle to the dealer, who kept it for 3 days looking for a "phantom draw". The vehicle was returned on Friday with the indication that no faults were fine and the battery tested good. On Moday, the vehicle would not start, and the 12 V battery was reading 4.9V.

Does anyone know if the Valve A Position Sensor Circuit could be the drain on the 12V battery?

Thank you

Are there other Ford dealerships nearby that you could have look at it? Maybe there is more to it but you make it sound as if they are not troubleshooting the issue properly and only replacing the battery.

Are there detailed notes on your work orders when they have completed service? That info would be useful to see to suggest what's next. BTW I think I would've posted this in the hybrid powertrain subforum. It's electrical, yes, but specific to hybrid and it'll get more hybrid eyes on it in that forum.
