Those look like hoses. There are hose clamps and a coupling.
You’re right and I stand corrected. It was a lot easier to see a 27” monitor vs a phone.

I would genuinely be interested in a 2024 model if any of these speculative situations came to fruition - I'll have my current Mav paid off by the time the replacement arrives ;)

of course I'm still in love with the concept of an AWD V758/transit connect van with a Maverick nose... so we'll just have to see!

I'm skeptical about this being a Rattler. The F150 Rattler is based on an XL, and this particular vehicle seems to be based on the Lariat with DRL headlights, painted mirror caps, and painted door handles. Would love to know if the Lariat interior colors are going to change, can't tell.

More on this soon. I think you guys are gonna like it.
Liking and being able to buy it are two different things. Coming out with a new model when you can't build enough to fill present orders seems strange. My dealer said that if he had 20 Mavericks on the lot they'd be gone in a week. Put all efforts into delivering and building unfulfilled orders.

Considering that a PHEV Escape is about a $5k premium over the Hybrid, that's about what I'd expect in a similar Mav setup. At that price, please take ALL of my money, I'll have a sales agent ready with paperwork the second August orders open up.

But with battery component prices shooting up, it might be more like $6-7k

Ok, I squealed. This would make all the waiting 100% worth it. I'll get my order pushed to a 2024 if it means AWD hybrid.
Don't know why people are dying for an AWD hybrid? I've got a AWD Ecoboost , 92 miles per day drive, 52 of that is interstate, the rest is back country roads and 2 laners. I'm getting 32.4 mpg for weeks now and do a 70 mph on the interstate. Just get the Ecoboost AWD and call it a day .

Toyota does this.
Yeah but all their engines are weak.

I also meant every car that there is enough on the road to justify a conversion.

I dont think you understand what engineers are. They arent going to go from designing cars and features for them one month and then move to Mexico to design expanded production lines.

I would love an awd PHEV for a couple reasons. I drive on average 950 miles a month. In that month i take 4 trips that equal 350 miles round trip. The other 600 miles are trips less than 20 miles round trip.
if I had a PHEV that gave me decent performance (like RAV4 Prime) in pure EV mode, i would substantially drop my gas bill. This would be game changer for me.
i am thinking about getting an AWD Maverick but I’m really waiting to see if any viable PHEV with decent cargo comes to the market. Also awaiting the new Ford Ranger. I plan to put a deposit down this winter on whatever I decide.

Looks to be a 7 pin towing connector - would they really put that on a PHEV or hybrid system? I sort of doubt it. I'm guessing this is an off-road specific package, e.g. Tremor.

Also, what's that plug between the 4 pin and 7 pin connectors?

My wild speculation.

A super interesting design would be if Ford took the Magna axle approach. That would be to have an EcoBoost engine up front in FWD mode, with an all new electric back axle connected to a battery. That gives AWD without any need to transfer power from front to rear. Magna provides a rear axle that drops right in and does this.

Imagine the power this thing would have. 350+ HP? Given the skid plates and the lift kit, I don't think this is a prototype aiming at particularly high fuel economy. This is all about being a bad-a--.

https://www.motortrend.com/news/magna-ebeam-axle-ev-truck/
This is the system used in the Lincoln Corsair PHEV AWD, however it requires a large HV battery pack in order to power the rear drive unit.

I have been wondering for years why they dont use axles like that on FWDs and wheel hub motors on RWDs to make every damn car on the road hybrid AWD. With as much paltform sharing as there has been in the last 50 years regarding suspension design, you would only need about 40 adapter kits to increase the range, efficiency, and traction(safety). I think its a conspiracy between big oil and whoever makes that hourly repair rate book that local mechanics use to stick it to ya. They are also the people who killed AMC who innovated the modern era of cars with a efficient AWD crossover called the Eagle.

As for this truck, great if its AWD hybrid or just a offroad package that has better angles and gear. If its the later I hope the bumpers, skids, and Bronco diff fit my FX4.
In wheel motors and electric drive units on PHEVs are uncommon because the setup is wildly expensive, and with the future regulatory emissions landscape it simply does not make sense for automakers to spend R&D money on those kinds of *HEVs when they could design and build a full BEV instead.

I ordered a smaller affordable pickup, like a throw back to the tiny 70s, 80s mini trucks.
Jump up to the Ranger or F150 ya'll, if you want bigger, stronger, faster, expensive, complicated. Leave this poor sap something simple I can buy and afford long term.

Alas, history repeats itself, here we go again.
A displeased Lee Iacocca summed up later: "The Mustang market never left us, we left it."
