Actually RWD is better than FWD as long as they keep their tires dry. The weight of the trailer and the boat on the rear axle provides traction where it is actually shifting the weight distribution away from the front wheels.
That's the problem, most often the rear tires are in the water, or right at the edge & therefore no traction.

OP, I'll tell you what I would do. I would unbolt that bitch take it back to the Walker Ford, tell them to shove it up their ass, then cancel payment. Case Closed!

Got my hitch installed today. I was so excited until I noticed they i stalled it incorrectly and now I have to take it back and make them fix it. Oh and replace my bumper because they did some custom work to it to get it where they put it... Not amused.

Oh, nuts, and about 3" too low! I was concerned after going from an F150 to the Mav I would need to invert the drop hitch ball placement but when I did it interfered with the tailgate. Set it back where it was and it turned out perfect. Where yours is would cause my tongue jack to drag even fully retracted. Hope they fix it for you cuz that aina gonna work!

OK then, you can ignore my previous post. Please post some photos when they do replace it, so we may inspect their work. Good Luck!

Wow. Why would anyone order a truck without adding a $100 hitch?
It can happen as it happened to me.

On my 2022 Maverick XLT Hybrid order at the dealership I wasn't informed that the hitch was optional. I wrongly assumed that all trucks came with a hitch.

I ordered on 8/23/21 and got scheduled very fast with a build date on 9/16/21.

Slightly later in September I read on this site that the hitch was optional and then noticed that the hitch was not on my order.

At the time Ford allowed orders with a build date but not built yet to make minor changes to the order.

The only exception was the Ford Maverick was excluded so I could not make the change.

Because Mavericks were in demand and supply was tight and build dates were long early Mavericks could be sold used to Carvana at a higher price than what it cost.

I took advantage of that and ordered a 2023 Maverick XLT Hybrid with the hitch on 9/16/22 and got it delivered on 09/21/23.

I Sold my 2022 Maverick XLT Hybrid for $31,404 to Carvana on 8/28/2023.

I only paid $26,068 for it. That price was for total-out-the-door cost including all taxes and fees with no trade-in. No interest was paid as I used the 0% 36 month offer.

So I ended up getting a brand new 2023 Maverick XLT Hybrid with the hitch while getting paid a profit of $5,336 on my 2022.

Even though the 2023 had price increases I ended up with over $3K in profit while swapping the 2022 for the 2023.

You can't make this stuff up. Really? I'm sorry you had this happen.

What can't you make up? The hitch is installed correctly. Sounds like the sales person or parts person didn't understand wtf was going on and they are correcting it now.

So this is how it's supposed to be installed on the Maverick? Not the way it is on mine? Not understanding your response. Are there two different ways the hitch is supposed to be installed? I wasn't aware of that.

Curt VS Draw-tite VS Maverick OEM
All 3 are manufactured for the Ford Maverick. All three will accomplish the same job, although when mounted they may be different aesthetically. Whether you like the looks or not, that's a personal issue and not one of functionality.

In summary, the OP's Draw-Tite
hitch was installed properly.

Those who bought a Ford Maverick without a hitch and now desire one. Will prefer to install one of the aftermarket hitches versus Ford OEM. Especially if they don't want to go through everything it takes to install a Ford OEM hitch.
Disassembling the back of a Maverick in order to install an OEM Hitch.

Here is a picture of a Curt hitch being installed without disassembling the back of the Maverick
Ford Maverick Ford Dealership Installed my Hitch Incorrectly 20241222_085218

It becomes much clearer, why the original poster was quoted a $300 difference between a Ford OEM and an aftermarket hitch.
In my opinion. The steps involved installing an oem shown in the first photo. Is far more difficult than installing an aftermarket shown in the second photo. But that's just an opinion based on my personal skill level and past experience. Some folks don't recognize that, just because they can easily do the job.
That does not mean everyone else can.

It’s really not difficult to remove the rear bumper cover and crash bar to replace it with integrated crash bar with hitch.

on my wife’s odyssey and my civic I had to remove (and trim) the rear bumper fascia for both of my installs

Sounds like unreconcilable communication issues. First ya buy something with reasonable expectations of what you got. Then after you've got it home and some time goes by, something happens, the ass end increases in size. It's common.

I personally don't mind it, but it's all about clearly communicating the expectations and what will be delivered.

I recommend divorcing your dealer before they disappoint you next. Find one that better suites you 😉.

My wife has an Odyssey and I've got a Mav. Dream team family setup if you ask me. The van for long comfortable trips and the Mav for weekend warrior / adventures. Both efficient enough to use as commuters.
