My Mazda3 just went through hellish transmission issues. It's good now, but I don't have confidence that it will last me more than 2 years. I'm going to sell it to my wife's cousin who needs a car. In his hands, I don't know how long that thing will last.
Never bought a new car but I am in a pretty decent spot to afford one. Always wanted my dad's 95 Tacoma but he absolutely refuses to sell/give to any of his sons. All recent trucks have been too big for my liking and this one looks really good size-wise. Throw in the AWD and FX4 and I'll be able to take it to some nice campgrounds in the area with my dogs, equipment, and wife with no issue.
The simple answer is I missed having a truck, but did not missed the <17 mpg from my Frontier. My search started with the Ranger, but I did not want to pay $40k. The Maverick AWD/2T filled the boxes of what I wanted in a reasonable budget.
I currently have a 2500hd silverado...that I am going to keep but it has 300k almost on it...
so the maverick fits the bill nicely...if i need to tow my big enclosed cargo trailer ill still have my big truck...
Maverick will be better for me in a lot of ways...
double or more the MPG of my silverado... my biggest expense for my business is fuel...my fuel savings will almost make the payment on the truck...
decent towing (i have a RZR570 and a small fishing boat)
interior is "crew cab" size...
alot of newer pickups the beds are quite high off the ground now...even higher than my 2004 silverado2500...so the low bed will be handy...
and I do not like the ranger at all....
Plus I have never owned a brand new vehicle and didnt want to buy a $50-65000 f150/silverado...
1) Hybrid!
2) Price.
3) Ability to carry larger, longer or taller items when needed.
4) Able to stuff in a lot more than in the little hatchback sedan if making a run to the dump.
5) Current vehicle now 27 years old. Although only a bit over 55,000 original miles, it's time to retire it.
I drive about 50 miles round trip to work at least 3 or 4 days a week. I currently have a 2018 Tacoma with a couple years left to pay on. I was going to buy a small used economy car after the truck is paid for to drive back n forth to work. When I saw the Maverick hybrid it all made sense. Kill two birds with one stone. I tow a 900 lb teardrop camper, for which the V6 Tacoma is overkill. I can have the towing capacity and fuel economy I need in one great looking and versatile package.
Ford really hit the mark with this one. The maverick lets me have the utility of a truck with the practicality of an SUV, and test out the features of a proven hybrid technology. The Maverick offers me a hedge against future electric vehicles with a low cost placeholder, while waiting to see the solid state batteries from their joint venture with SK and Solid Power prove out. I think Ford has narrowed down the key constraint [vehicles aren’t like phones] and making affordable electric available to the masses through this joint venture. Ford really deserves credit for putting out an affordable in-between vehicle in the middle of skyrocketing prices and some willingness to make right some of the bad from their dealer network. That’s why I placed an order for the XLT Maverick.
As an aside, Mustang convertibles have always been a love/hate relationship
for me. Nothing can match the feeling of letting those horses run with the top down until you encounter some road hazard or careless moment that quickly reminds you of the perils of having a narrow wheel base with very quick response times. Hit a low curb on a country road, do a 360 and that will stick with you.
Wanted a truck
Price was right
Had the few options I wanted
Walked into dealer as one come in and bought it on the spot.
2.0 AWD 4K FX4 XLT Cactus Grey. Was going in to order but this was there and person who order changed mind and boom it was mine.
I wanted something like this. This was my fathers 78 Chevy Luv. I learned how to drive a stick in this and passed my road test in this. I have/had multiple f150's. My knees and ankles don't want to climb in to a big truck anymore. I want something smaller to knock around town with.
