Just had my first oil change on my 2023 EB at the dealer. Originally thought about using full synthetic, but when the service writer said that it comes with blend from the factory, that was goodenuff for me. $52 bucks was a deal compared to what others have been charged I'm hearing.

When I called the dealer and asked the price and how long it would take, I was told around 1 hr. Then I asked how long it would be to do the turn signal lamp failure recall, they quoted another hr. The wait was just under an hour for both jobs. That met my expectation. Flashing the BCM is a pretty quick job.

Still, Canadian or Us, over $100 for an oil change??
There are several factors, Hybrid vs EB. Different oils, different cost. Greed and collusion between the dealers. They are charging way over cost for parts and labor to make up for the slow down in vehicle sales. Labor costs have gone up a fair bit in the last two years as well. Here in Canada there are very few independent dealers left, most are part of auto groups. In some cases those groups are national chains that own thousands of dealerships. I did a lot of hunting and found my dealer which charges around $146 Cdn (includes taxes 12% + environmental fees) is actually one of the cheapest dealers in the region! Most are charging closer to $200 for a full synthetic oil change and inspection. The cheaper option is the not factory approved 5W-20 synthetic blend oil change for $128 Cdn (with tax/fees).

At the Ford dealer I bought my hybrid Maverick from….synthetic oil….shop brand….does this seem really high priced to you?
Do it yourself for just under $80 while maintaining all oem. Fortunately I have free oil changes all the way to 40k. After that, I will be doing it myself. Wont be paying the $123 at my dealer for the oil change.

My cousin's girlfriend told me it cost her $900 to change the oil in her Porsche SUV at the dealer. Thank God for Ford Dealers.

That's a lot more than just an Oil Change. My Porsche Cayman S (mid engine) is $300 but they check a 1/2 dozen other devices and fluids according to the "P" service manual. Once you have crawled into the rear trunk of a Cayman to access the engine compartment is behind the driver's seat...you realize what a pain changing oil is.

Just bought 5 quarts of SynTech 0w-20 Fully Synthetic oil and a Fram Tough Gurard oil filter from Wal-Mart for my son's Toyota Corolla for $40. We spent 30 minutes changing his oil together. Actually it was an hour; apparently someone put the last oil filter on with a hydraulic tool. :)

He said he enjoyed doing it with me. 60 minutes doing non-video games with my son and teaching him a useful skill (and saving $50-$100)...Priceless.

Did the same with my oldest son when he bought a used Accord for his first car in high school.

Amazing how many young men today have no clue how to maintain a vehicle.

I can tell you this. Yes, that seems high however when I called my dealer about an oil change and rotate tires. They told me $125. I got my bill and it was $75. I asked why the difference and the answer was the person on the phone must have thought you had a hybrid. Save on gas- pay more for an oil change. Go figure!

I remember when they used to call these "inspection" services a "tune up" and people thought they were genuinely doing something to the engine to make it run better lol. Now they just throw a bunch of numbers at it and label it "inspection".

642 point inspection.

What do they actually do?
Visually inspect fluids under the hood and check boxes on a checklist :ROFLMAO:

My local mechanic does it for $55, full synthetic. He uses Pennzoil platinum. Typically I do it myself though, just more convenient.

At one point it was true, when distributors were a thing, since they literally had to tune the timing of the engine manually. Thus the name, tune up.

To put this into context, since this thread is in the Canada section of the forum. 5 quarts (5.6L, which you cannot buy in that amount, you have to buy over 6L) of 0W-20 full synthetic motor oil costs around $50-70+ Cdn depending on brand/sales etc. Add another $15-20 Cdn for the filter. $70-80 minimum to DYI here.

Whoops, I didn't realize this was in the Canadian section. My bad. Well, 5L would actually do it for his car, because it only takes 4.25 quarts.

But dang!! $15-$20Cdn for an oil filter? That's nearly double what we pay in NC. I'm thinking I won't change his oil filter when we change the oil next time. I change the oil every 10k miles, but the oil filter says it's a 25k mile filter.

Maverick Hybrid takes 5.4L (5.7qt) according to the manual, which says that including filling the factory oil filter.

You can get cheap junky entry level FRAM and no name brand filters for under $10, but no way I'd put that on a brand new vehicle. I haven't looked, but I think the Ford dealer is charging $20 for a MOTORCRAFT part.
