$150 sounds like a Mercedes oil change

What all do they do for the $150?

Could be a rip off, could be a bargain.....details matter.

I paid about $125 for my 10,000 mile oil change at my local ford dealer. That did strike me as a lot, since the oil change was all I got. I take my Volvo to the dealer for oil changes and its $110, and for that the car also gets a very good interior and exterior cleaning. I might take the Maverick back to the dealer again, but only if it coincides with them doing some recall stuff. If not, I'll do it myself.

They try to add on a bunch of "inspection" crap. I refuse to go to the dealers near me for this reason. When I had my Escape Hybrid in for it's battery issues, I had them change the oil because I was told I got a free one. I knew I was not keeping it so I didn't care what they used and I pushed it to 7k before I bothered. They come back telling me the battery is fine and it just needs charging (BS, it constantly died and left me stranded 3 times after they charged it) and then they handed me a bill for over $100. I almost died. I said "no no... I have a free first oil change and I got it in writing in the vehicle" they said "oh, you have to use your Ford points for that one"... what a scam.

If you can change your own oil - do it. Had I not been having issues and knew I wasn't keeping the vehicle, I would have never bothered. Wasted half a day some of the stories I heard them tell people in there to get them to spend more had me shaking my head the whole time. Especially the one that was asked to change the air filter but the guy said "I just did it, it didn't need changed". lol. Scam artists.

Even more amusing when I watched the dashcam footage of their "inspection".

Plus, most these places purposely keep vehicles for an hour at minimum so they can charge you for an hour. I've seen videos of dealerships moving a vehicle to another lot before it enters the shop, then entering the shop, then the mechanic taking a 15 minute smoke break, then 4 minutes of work, then parked again, then 15 more minutes before they actually come get the customer.

This is standard procedure for dealership service departments. All they have to do is tell people there is a charge for the an hour minimum but instead they chose to be shady about it.

All Full Synthetic:
My Ford Dealer had a special - $80 for oil filter change and tire rotation.
2nd oil change: Valvoline Oil Change place - was $69,
Jiffy Lube would be $118.00 (not out of my wallet)

So far little "recalls" have been my oil changes.

Sadly yes this is about the norm now. Hard to believe just two years ago you could get the same service for under $80 Cdn.

Keep in mind people this is the Canada section of the forum and the OP is talking in Cdn money here.
