I test drove a 2022 Ford Edge with 2.0 & 8-speed and it was quiet unless you really stomped on it and it downshifted for more revs, and then recently a Maverick XLT 2.0 and it was pretty similar. I am deaf on 1 side and higher frequency loss on the other side, so maybe I'm just not that sensitive to it. Then again, on our F-150 with 5.0 Coyote V-8 exhaust note is REALLY noticeable when you punch it- but I like that!

Our V6 highlander has a nice growl when u floor it. 2L Ecoboost sounds like a cheap/scratchy 4 banger - Not sure there is a fix other than Dynomat -

Someone mentioned you can even get a clear film that blocks the majority of sun heat. Is that true?

Yes. Air 80 tint isn't technically completely clear, but it appears to be.

I didn't get that impression personally. Is this your first time driving a turbo vehicle? My 2.0 non turbo Focus is much louder than this Eco 2.0 and produces 90 less HP. I am sure if it really bothers you an engine cover and maybe some under hood and firewall insulation could help. If you don't have a Lariat you can look into acoustic windshield films as well. It won't be as good as a factory installed one sandwiched between glass, but I am sure these will be available aftermarket at some point if you ever need to replace a windshield.

I had a 2013 Fusion with the 1.6 and don’t remember it ever being busy. To me, it’s just obvious. There’s the regular engine noise, the turbo noise, and then just a louder buzzing sound.

I can attest. Last night I forgot the windows were even tinted. Hardly noticed. I have a 2012 Edge with the black interior and the same tint and it’s much more noticeable on that.

that dark window tint on side windows isn't legal in CA is it? I lived there until a few years ago and remember people getting ticketed for dark tint because it's a safety issue for cops coming up to your window and not being able to see clearly inside.

Technically not legal in CA. But I haven't been messed with for it, in 40 years. Maybe if you live in a small town where the cops were bored you might have a problem. As I say, in Sacramento, cops are too busy with serious stuff, to waste time for stupid little infractions.
Heck, on the main street in front of my house (city street, but 3 lanes each way) the speed limit is 40mph... But people drive 60mph "in town" ! And I've never seen anyone get pulled over for speeding in the 5 yrs we have lived here. I usually drive about 50mph. Again, the cops are just too overwhelmed to waste time on traffic violations.
Probably why hardly a week goes by that their isn't a serious or fatal traffic accident, often involving pedestrians, on the main street (Watt Ave) that we live on.
Seriously, sometimes it feels like an episode of Max Max driving on our street.

Hey since this is a tint thread, I want to suggest this stuff again.... It's freaking awesome ! Whether it's legal or not, I guarantee a cop will be er know you have it on your windshield....

But I would always have it professionally installed. This stuff is just amazing ! It stops SO much heat from entering your cab. Also reduces glare big time, especially at night, on wet roads. Totally a huge plus for safety.... Yet it's technically illegal in CA. Freaking stupid. But so what, cops will never know by looking at it. It's pretty much completely clear (no tint).

California has one of the toughest Tint Laws in the country. Your truck looks fantastic but is just a question of time until they pull you over. First time you get only a warning and are asked to remove the tint. Second time 25 dollar ticket and order to remove the tint. Third time 200 dollars.

That's why I asked the question. I know each state is different and some folks don't care and will risk the ticket. It was like when I bought a '99 Jeep Cherokee here in AZ and drove to my last duty station in Dover DE. Going through state inspection I was told no tint on front driver and passenger side windows! This was in 2001 so laws maybe different now. I said to the inspector, don't you get sun here in Delaware? He was not amused!
