Here’s something else I didn’t know until yesterday. On my 454 mile trip home, after stopping at a rest area and getting back on I95 my engine light came on. I was concerned after reading about the fire post so I pulled off at the next exit and called my Service Manager. He looked up my truck data on Fordpass, told me what time the light went on, the error code and the solution. Since it was just a sensor error I was fine to drive home. I love they can look up all the current data and eliminate my stress! So glad I bought a Maverick!

Premium gas gives you more miles per gallon than regular gas. Sorry, that's pretty much booo-gus. Here's why. Each gallon of gas that we pump from our local Quickie Mart is actually made up from as many as seven different ingredients. The exact amount of energy in each gallon of premium or regular gas will vary from company to company, depending upon what kind of additives they use. In actual fact, you'll get a greater range of fuel economy between different brands of regular gas, than you will between the same manufacturer's regular and premium gasses. Interesting, eh? We thought so. Finally, here's a nice irony: to increase gas' octane rating, companies add ethanol, when they're mixing up a batch of premium fuel. Interestingly, ethanol actually contains less energy than untreated gas, so the net result from the ethanol component is a reduction in your MPG. Other premium additives, however, have the reverse effect, and slightly increase your MPG. So okay, overall premium provides a very slight net increase in MPG, but it's so slight that we swear you won't notice the difference. I always used the increased MPG that resulted from using premium as a justification to purchase it. Too bad. Consider yourself better informed now, and stop lining the pockets of oil companies, okay? While premium gas drives performance in certain engines, the idea that it's more fuel efficient is a myth. Any fuel efficiency gained would stem from engine performance and not the gas itself. Buying premium gas won't have you visiting a gas station any less frequently, especially with a standard engine that isn't designed to take advantage of premium gas.

That's why ethanol free premium should make a measurable difference. Every time I have run the math on my fuel economy though, the regular is the more economical choice.

Dollars per mile is what is important to me

Brings up a point I always wondered. If I leave the vehicle running with the kefob in my pocket and walk away. Can someone drive of with it?

I've just tested it on my Lariat and and the short answer is:

Without the fab being around three feet from the Maverick, it can not be put into gear, the gear selector switch is locked. When I walked away from the running truck, it beeped twice too, indicating that the fob is out of range.

I am not certain, if this is not the same with the other models (XL, XLT, etc.) with key fobs, the chances are they would behave the same way.

After riding around in mine a few times and just letting her sit in the drivers seat my mom is shopping around for one. She will trade in her brand new impala for one if she can find one will all the bells and whistles that she wants.

What part of NW Louisiana? Grew up in LA and migrated to TX over 40 years ago. What is she looking for - a loaded Lariat I assume?

My mom's Lincoln has push button start. She needed to make a quick stop at a store. I dropped her off at the entrance and drove the car to a parking spot to wait. When she reemerged at the entrance, I went to put the car back in gear, but it wouldn't go. Turns out she had the key in her purse still.

It let me park the car because it was still in drive, but once it exited drive it wouldn't go back.

Just as a comparison I did test in 2020 Ford Ecosport SE has Push Button start. Same results. No Key detected and couldn't shift out of park. Yes horn beeped twice when I got out BUT did NOT beep when I walked about a 100 feet away with key fob in my pocket. .

I have a hard time understanding this. The OP said 40% blockage which is only true if you are bad at math. I double checked my view at lunch just now. While certainly there is some blockage, it is not remotely intrusive to me. Anything that might be on either far outside of the rear glass is easily seen through the side mirrors. And now if you have rear seat passengers you have taken away legitimate whiplash protection.

You should contact the Guinness Book folks - for the most MPG increase by using 2 octane point higher fuel... The engineering folks say "maybe 2 to 3% increase in mpg" for using 91 (vs 87), and here you are - getting more like 13%+ by going half-way between those octane ratings! Pretty amazing!

Personally, I suspect "confirmation bias" is playing a role here...

His mileage increase has WAY more to do with ethanol content than it does octane. Add ethanol and you decrease mileage. It is that simple. It is the reason why high ethanol E85 is so shit for fuel mileage.
