Nice list. Thanks.

As far as higher octane ,. It has been tested I think Car & Driver did it. NOT on a maverick but the results would be similar. Yes you increase MPG a little and gain a little more HP. Its because the car can advance the timing faster and more and not get pre ignition (knocking) with higher octane gas. Its rather simple from my racing days we could have faster old style mechanical timing advance when we used 112 motor octane race gas. Retard timing when I street gas.

Is it worth it NO according to the test you just wasted money for a slight increase in MPG or power depending on how you drove. BUT hey if you like wasting money go for it.
The green is dye from the factory. It makes ir easier to spot leaks

Can something regarding valves coking up and what can be done about it be added to the list?

Yes this is the theory.
Yes you could do this manually in the old days.

No, your Maverick is not going to do this. Your Maverick is only going to de-tune AFTER knock sensors detect knock.
It does not "tune up" on higher octane. At least not that I could find with OBDII readers.

How / when might you get knock?
At very high load / wide open throttle / near wide open throttle.

People rarely are there. Off the racetrack you and I can only go WOT for about 10 seconds, even if we try to make it knock. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Whether it uptuneing as your calling it or not. The car magazine Test showed an increase in HP and a slight increase in gas mileage . Higher octane gas does not have more energy in it. So the car is somehow getting more energy (HP) out of it by timing would be my guess or some other way I am not aware of. Possible the computer always tries to advance timing but stops when it detects knock then with higher octane gas can have it advanced farther with no knock getting more energy .

First thing I did when I started driving my Tremor was to remove the right side rear head rest.😊(y) Some Mavericks don't have a locking fuel door so don't go looking for the emergency release. LOL. You listed some great tips for individuals that do not read their manual.

From other forums, Police Dark Mode has a couple things it does. 1 is it allows you to be able to turn off the white lights when exiting the vehicle, no interior or exterior lights on. 2 it allows you to walk away from your vehicle with your keyfob (push button start only) and leave it running without fear of it being stolen because it will not go into gear without the keyfob near. I haven't found anyone that has made it work 100% of the time.
Brings up a point I always wondered. If I leave the vehicle running with the kefob in my pocket and walk away. Can someone drive of with it?

I disagree, it’s probably about a wash to be honest with you. I get paid for mileage and it doesn’t pay less because I have a hybrid.

If there was an easy way to “prove it” I would. But it sounds like I would have to jump through a lot of hoops to do it.

With this engine it’s probably as simple as getting 191 instead of 188 horsepower by using 93, but there does seem to be a difference.

If I didn’t think so I would have went back to 87.
I run 89 octane non-ethanol gas in my EcoBoost. About $0.55 higher per gallon than 87 octane 10% ethanol regular, but I get 4-5 more mpg.

  1. You are not to tow anything until you drive the truck 1000 miles.
  2. The manual release for the fuel door is over the driver's side rear wheel
  3. For best performance, Ford recommends using a high-octane fuel with an octane level of 91 or higher.
  4. The oil in your truck coming from the factory is "slime" green.
  5. Your truck has a secret setting for "Police Dark Mode".
  6. Your truck has a secret setting for "Ambulance Mode".
  7. If your infotainment screen freezes, hold down the volume and skip forward button at the same time for 5 seconds and it will reset the screen.
  8. The rear head rests block about 40% of your rear vision via the rear-view mirror. Remove them for a much better rear view.
  9. There is no light in the glove compartment, but the passenger side overhead light will illuminate the interior of the glove box just fine.
  10. The mirror visors have lights.

Bonus:

- The rear cubby storage divider insert can be removed leaving enough space to store your
hitch shank and ball mount. Just wrap them in foam or a towel to keep them from rattling.
They must have run out of the slime green oil at the factory. Mine was built 05-22-23 and the oil is a neon orange! I thought it was long life antifreeze for a second!!!

91 octane on hybrids? Seems like that would offset any fuel savings.
That's just what your engine needs to run at peak. That does not necessarily mean best for wallet
