Since both it and the new TSB 23-2060 (in part 4. of the service procedure below) reference the EGR, it seems reasonable to believe that system is involved.

That thread has the images a bit jumbled up in some places. Those instructions are from 23-2059 for the EGR/DPFE Sensor.

TSB 23-2060 is such:

I haven't gone in for the TSB, it doesn't fix it? It's so annoying in drivethrus, feel like I'm going to hit the dude in front getting my morning coffee.
Same thing with my truck. The worst brakes in any car I have ever driven and I have driven hybrid cars for years.

Thanks for clearing that up! EGR did seem unrelated, but systems are so integrated now didn't seem implausible, especially with the original TSB circus.

Cheers.

I did take in my Maverick in for TSB and it did improve but not a 100%. What I did notice when I drove it in the rain/slushy snow it grab more than usual even with the fix applied.

Now my 2018 Honda Clarity PHEV was nothing like my Maverick. The Clarity braking was pretty smooth like my Taurus. I kind of wonder who did the quality check when the Maverick was in R&D before releasing it for production.

I just picked up my ‘23 this past week and I haven’t had any issues with grabby brakes. Granted, I’ve only put about 100 miles on it so far, but I expected to notice it right away based on feedback from this forum.

My brakes feel totally linear and I’m unable to even discern when the transition from regenerative braking to friction braking occurs. Maybe Ford fixed the issue in newer Mavericks, or maybe I just haven’t driven enough to have it occur yet. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for it.

That's the thing about the grabby brake issue, it's not all the time. Some trips you take it won't happen at all. Sometimes you can go for a week and hundreds of miles and not get it! Then it will hit. 90-95% of the time it's not a problem. It really stand out in slow creeping stop and go traffic or when parking when it does happen.

I had a '22 Hybrid XL and just picked up a '23 Hybrid XL on Friday. In the 22, I noticed the brakes on it immediately. I got used to it over the few thousand miles I drove it, but it was annoying and somewhat dangerous at first because I honestly thought I was going to run into a vehicle in front of me at times. It was consistent for me, I noticed it in drive-thrus, stop and go traffic, and backing into my driveway (slight incline). My wife only drove it once because she hated it and didn't feel safe in it. I actually sold the 22 Hybrid and ordered a '23 Ecoboost when the order bank opened because of it.

I also had a Hybrid order that got rolled to a '23 (long story, didn't think it would get built and original dealer agreed to courtesy delivery since i moved) that I just got on Friday. Decided to give it another shot. It feels completely different. Zero sign of the braking issue the 2022 had. Night and day, doesn't feel like it even has the same braking system as I haven't been able to recreate it at all.

TLDR: Had a 2022 Hybrid XL, the brakes were terrible and frustrating. Now have a 2023 Hybrid XL, the brakes operate exactly as expected without any sign of abrupt jerking at low speeds.

I have a 2023 just took delivery of 2 weeks ago. First week was great, brakes were smooth and predictable.

Second week we started getting rain - and then I immediately became familiar with the janky brakes everyone has been talking about.

We have had off and on rain all week, and everytime it has been raining the brakes have been weird at low speed.

I have 160 miles on the truck. Unbelievable they haven't figured this problem out yet...

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Yup, get used to it. Semi-normal in the dry, grabby-mess in the wet.

I hope my "23 hybrid will show up in 30-60 days. Should I have my dealership perform the TSB 23 -2060 before I accept delivery?

I drove my 2023 in the rain for the first time yesterday, and I had the exact same experience as you. I have ~250mi on my truck. I previously commented on this thread saying that my brakes are totally normal, so I guess I’ll eat my words now.

I’m curious why the brakes suddenly become so grabby in the rain. It makes me wonder if the pads are sensitive to moisture, and maybe the coefficient of friction is changing due to the moisture. I can’t think of any other components in the system that could be adversely affected when it rains.

It's bad when it's wet out but acts normal when it's dry. Wonder what's going on. System can't compensate for wet rotors?

I have a 22 Hybrid. I have adjusted to the slow speed brakes. I usually try to slow down a little early and am very aware of the pedal feel at slow speed.
I do agree when it's very damp out and cold, the brakes are very grabby and noisy.

I do intend to get the TSB done when I go in for my oil change, airbag recall. I really hope they have a loaner for me.
