Folks I searched for answers specific to 23 my. I know some 22s were having the grabby brakes and there is a TSB on it(for 22 my only). Any issues with 23 owners?

The reason I ask is I have a 23 hybrid xlt and just passed 3k miles. I have had no issues until today. In SW Ohio we got a lot of rain and was in stop and go traffic and noticed the brakes grabbing at low speeds as I was coming to a stop multiple times, its never done this to my knowledge. Any other 23 model owners experience this yet?

Thanks in advance.

Ford never really fixed the problem, kind of reduced it, so it's still there.
I haven't gone in for the TSB, it doesn't fix it? It's so annoying in drivethrus, feel like I'm going to hit the dude in front getting my morning coffee.

I think there are two different issues being described as "grabby brakes".

The more disconcerting one (exactly as you describe), inconsistent, and at low speed, is the "Oh s**t, I'm going to hit the car in front of me because the brakes aren't engaging the way they do 90% of the time under the same conditions". So we press the pedal harder and then the brakes suddenly grab hard. Hopefully the TSB largely addresses this. Guessing, but since both TSB's reference it, there is a relationship between certain information from the EGR system not always being dealt with correctly by the early software.

Different issue I've noticed is that the initial bite on the brakes is especially sensitive to moisture, much more variable in this respect than any other vehicle I can recall. Changes from day to day. Seems like a poor pad/rotor material match.

Perhaps there are cases of owner's expecting the second issue to be resolved by the TSB not being satisfied.

Cheers.

There is not. Ford just incorporated the firmware changes to address both in the same update and the same TSB. This seems to have caused a lot of confusion at the service level so they're now separate.

The first one is the real issue, and the only one I've noticed. Never experience this second set of symptoms you've described, and I'm on the wet coast in Vancouver.

Didn't bother after reading what others have reported on the first TSB. Frankly the less the dealership touches the truck the better, IMO. That could just be because I have no experience with the service department at my dealership though, give that this is my first Ford, so no trust whatsoever built at this point.

I used slippery mode today for the first time because of some snow and man was it grabby more than usual… I predict this effects all hybrid Mavericks.

Interesting, I find the brakes softer and require more pressure in slippery mode. Not sure I found it any more grabby at slow speeds than in any other mode.

Can confirm. Rain/moisture definitely makes the brakes more grabby in the final 3-5mph. I've roughly 2.7k on mine.

Ok I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. Drove today in dry conditions and braking was normal.

Just a thought about the grabby brake issue. 2019+ Ford Rangers have been notorious for having soft spongy brakes and using the Forscan you can run an ABS service mode to eliminate any possible air. I've done it on two different Rangers and it definitely improves the braking feel. Has anyone used Forscan for doing this on the Maverick to see if it's supported? I haven't received my truck yet but it would be interesting to see if it would improve anything. In the Maverick's case it may well be strictly a software issue.

The original TSB was poorly laid out and it was confusing, definitely not helpful for a tech in a busy service dept.

Since both it and the new TSB 23-2060 (in part 4. of the service procedure below) reference the EGR, it seems reasonable to believe that system is involved.

From what I've experienced it seems like one or more inputs to the related software controlling the brakes are occasionally falling outside the parameters the original code was designed to deal with, setting up the fault. Not surprising to have some code revisions necessary given the maddening complexity of new vehicles.

Cheers.

Maybe your brakes never dry out :ROFLMAO:.

But more seriously, perhaps there was a running change in brake pad materials. Mine is an early 22 build. While it is definitely a noticeable difference I wouldn't imagine it could cause an accident, and it passes as they dry. First issue could cause an accident, if someone (like my daughter who is just learning to drive) froze when the truck brakes acted in an unexpected manner.

Cheers.
