Up here in Canada a base maverick is cheaper then a Corolla and civic.

Reason I chose it is I needed something that was good on gas, could tow a 4x8 trailer and haul my family of 5. Maverick ticked all the boxes.

Also it is quite mod friendly. I've been Tinkering with cars over 20 years now.

I tell those who ask me about my Maverick that it seems like Ford asked me specifically what my perfect vehicle is, and then Ford went out and built that perfect vehicle, which is the Maverick. All my reasons for wanting and owning a Maverick have all been stated in the previous comments in this post. But the most important reasons to me are:

  1. I need a daily driver with good gas mileage because I have a long commute when I go into the office and I shuttle my kids and their stuff around.
  2. The standard homeowner yard and DIY project needs - hauling the dirty stuff that only a truck bed is appropriate for - brush, mulch, lumber, sod, gravel, tools, etc.
  3. It fits in my garage.
  4. It's a great value
  5. I like the styling

I've been waiting almost 40 years for a vehicle that would provide the functionality and efficiency I had in my 1981 Courier 2.3. The Maverick is the first one to not only do it, but provide many more creature comforts at the same time. Yes, it's bed is smaller, but will still carry 1500 lbs., 5 people, and meets my current needs.

Once the Maverick was officially launched, I was leasing a Toyota Tacoma SR5 that I enjoyed overall but was never fully satisfied. It was a compromise. It wasn't the color I wanted or the trim I wanted. It was something that was available. Fuel economy was atrocious (17-18 mpg on average) the seating position was very uncomfortable, the floor sat too high, there were no advanced safety features, and it was down on power. The moment I heard about the Maverick, I had serious thoughts of special-ordering one. I wasn't on the very first June-July bandwagon but I ended up ordering that September and do not regret it in the slightest. I chose the Maverick for a number of reasons:

- Great fuel economy (Now averaging 27-32 mpg with EB AWD) which means a fill-up every three weeks as oppose to once a week in the Tacoma
- Affordability (For only $2,000 more I can get a fully loaded Lariat as oppose to my mid-trim Tacoma SR5 and still keep a similar payment)
- Looks (The Tacoma wasn't bad looking but they're EVERYWHERE! The Maverick is unique in its own way. It still looks like a truck but different from everybody else and not as commonplace)
- Features (being the SR5 trim I didn't get much. But with the Lariat, I get niceties such as Blind-Spot Monitoring, Rear-Cross Traffic, Parking Sensors, Heated Seats, etc.)
- Comfort (No longer am I sitting on the truck, I'm now sitting in the truck. The faux leather seats are much more supportive and the deeper floor helps rest your legs in a better position)
- Size (The Tacoma wasn't terrible but the long hood and mechanical hydraulic steering still made it tricky to park in tight spaces. With the Maverick being compact and having electric power steering, it's nimble and easy to park)
- Practicality (Actually being able to reach the bed from the sides of the truck is such a handy feature that doesn't exist with most modern trucks anymore. And the bed size is just enough to get the job done)

This was the first time I ever special-ordered a vehicle and as a result, it allowed me to get what I want while still being able to afford it. That was the main reason for this purchase, affordability. For only an extra $32 on my monthly payment, I get exactly what I want. I turned in my Tacoma lease early with no penalty fees and am now perfectly happy with the Maverick. I intend to keep this long term.

Feel similarly, except they didn't ask me about color choices. LOL!! Good truck. Hope I can get one ordered. If the well equipped ones on dealers lots stay too highly priced thoroughout 2023, then I'll look at MY2024 in September... And that will be for both the new Ranger and the Maverick.

Why do I want a Maverick hybrid???

our ‘07 Honda CR-V has 150k+ miles on it.
In order to carry our bicycles, I have to put the rear seats down and folded down between the front seats and rear seats. Then take the handlebars off the 3-wheel bike in order to fit it in (it takes 2 people). Then my folding bike gets folded down and lifted in (65 lbs). Hence, the truck will be easier.
The hybrid can be flat towed behind the motor home. (The eco boost can NOT be flat towed. And also is lighter weight than most all other towable trucks are too heavy and we will be overweight.
Fuel mileage, yeah, it should be better than we get now, but it isn’t our biggest criteria of a need.
Overall cost, don’t tell the dealer, but it will be a cash buy…

I will buy one because:
I live in the Gulf South and run my a/c 10mo of the year, drive 90% city, just want it for weekend projects, no rear hatch to collect things, bed for adult & kids bicycles & it is THE CHEAPEST NEW HYBRID.

And being a tuner the EB would be too tempting to not modify.

I wanted an orange truck. It's my favorite vehicle color. I've had 2 other orange vehicles. Nothing like the cyber orange though. The cyber orange is a very unique orange which makes the Maverick even more appealing to me.

Buying a Maverick because:

1). Paying off after first payment. (Don't tell dealer!)
2). Moved to Northern Minnesota where the snow is a little too much for my 2015 Corolla.
3). Want a small truck that gets decent gas mileage comparable to my Corolla.
4). Want to replace Toyota at 35k while it's in good shape. You're welcome to buy it if you'd like.

I am mega anal retentive when it comes time to buy a new car, which happens every 10-12 years and 200k+ miles. For example, my last purchase started with 25 models to consider and ultimately 15 test drives, 5 retest drives and finally a selection. My current car, a Subaru Outback, which I adore like the 3 varied vehicles before it, is worn out and getting ready for semiretirement at the vacation home. My ordered Maverick Lariat hybrid with every possible option (sucker!) will be my retirement car. I plan on relocating closer to family, and wanted something comfortable to drive (I love road tripping) that also could handle runs to Lowes. Deep down I always wanted a Lariat; now there’s one that will get good mpgs. My only disappointment is it doesn’t have AWD with the hybrid nor cooled seats. After the initial “I can’t believe I spent this much money on myself” Catholic guilt feelings, I know I’m going to love it. should Ford ultimately punt my order, the RAV4 and CRV hybrids are my runner up vehicles.

i would have been all over another Subaru Outback if there was a hybrid version; I’m vexed and disappointed they don’t with their close relationship to Toyota. Why Subaru doesn’t have a normal looking (for them) Baja-type small truck is a huge opportunity missed.

Finally, the Mav will be my first domestic brand ever. I usually buy Japanese branded vehicles, and my quick embrace of the Mav surprised everyone I know who know my car passions, but most surprisingly myself. And while not exactly apples to apples, the Escape hybrid long service in NYC held great sway in my decision.

After living 76 years and having bought around 100 new vehicles for family and business, I pose the question, “Why would you buy a Maverick?” Before I answer it, let me share an insight my old dad gave me when I was a kid. It has 3 things to it and he aced Economics although he never finished High School.
  • Only buy what you can afford.
  • Only buy what you need.
  • Only buy what you want when you can afford it and if you think you need it.
Now to the answer to my question. A lot of people on the forum go to long explanations why a Corolla with a trailer will do what a Maverick will do, why some other vehicle is better, etc. The answer is very simple. If you only need a car, buy a car. If you need a 1 ton pickup and can afford it, buy a 1 ton pickup. If you want a $150K sports car and can afford it, buy it. But there is no need to go to great lengths to compare any of them to a Maverick. It is a small truck that is very affordable and designed to do what a small truck is designed to do – plain and simple.

If I own a business and move heavy equipment, etc. I probably need that 1 ton truck, not a Maverick. If I only go to the store and get groceries once a week, drive 2K per year and that is it, I can probably do with a 5 year old small car. If I want something that is functional in so many ways, and provided I can find one, I will buy a Maverick. If not, I will buy what I can afford, need and find and that is the end of it – plain and simple.
i”m buying it because it’s unobtainium.

Good thoughts, Mr. Bryant. I'm interested because it would fit in my garage, it's flat-towable behind my motor home, it's affordable, and it will get better mileage than my current ride 2013 Subaru Outback. Bonus points for being easy on the eyes.

I had 4 new basic rangers in a row. They worked out really well. The 1st and 4th one did 200,000+ miles. The 2nd got wrecked. The 3rd hit a deer, and I traded it in on the 4th.

Then in early 2020 I needed another. I didn't want a new ranger because it had gotten too big and too expensive for me. So I bought a used ranger. It was a money pit all of 2021.

I wanted a new maverick as soon as I saw them announced. But things weren't right for me to feel like I could order.

In Jan 2022 the used one decided to not start in the parking lot at work. A friend gave me a ride home in a minor blizzard. Almost 100 miles round trip for him. I ordered a new maverick that week as soon as I had a day off work.

I couldn't agree more--I'm 83 and was brought up by my Grandfather whos philosophy was if you can't pay for it you don't need it. Well I have a F250 6.7 for hauling-a fully decked Ranger for road trips and I wanted a small run around for everyday use-along comes the Maverick at a price point I could afford! I got the Tremor package because the ranch is 1/2 mile off the paved highway and I might need it someday if the weather sucks and I run out of milk and bread! I can actually get in and out of the Maverick without a fight and everything about it was designed with me in mind. My only bitch is spending $3k for an off road package that didn't include mud flaps!! WTF!
