I still have the under dash unit from my first car, many tapes too. Wonder if anything still works?
Believe it or not, there are places that still service players and sell 8-tracks, so even if it doesn't work, it can probably be fixed at a reasonable price. And the occasional new album on 8-track shows up (Dolly Parton's Dolly Christmas in 2020 was released on 8-Track as an example). And then there's places that rebuild/repair old tapes and sell them, too.

After living 76 years and having bought around 100 new vehicles for family and business, I pose the question, “Why would you buy a Maverick?” Before I answer it, let me share an insight my old dad gave me when I was a kid. It has 3 things to it and he aced Economics although he never finished High School.
  • Only buy what you can afford.
  • Only buy what you need.
  • Only buy what you want when you can afford it and if you think you need it.
Now to the answer to my question. A lot of people on the forum go to long explanations why a Corolla with a trailer will do what a Maverick will do, why some other vehicle is better, etc. The answer is very simple. If you only need a car, buy a car. If you need a 1 ton pickup and can afford it, buy a 1 ton pickup. If you want a $150K sports car and can afford it, buy it. But there is no need to go to great lengths to compare any of them to a Maverick. It is a small truck that is very affordable and designed to do what a small truck is designed to do – plain and simple.

If I own a business and move heavy equipment, etc. I probably need that 1 ton truck, not a Maverick. If I only go to the store and get groceries once a week, drive 2K per year and that is it, I can probably do with a 5 year old small car. If I want something that is functional in so many ways, and provided I can find one, I will buy a Maverick. If not, I will buy what I can afford, need and find and that is the end of it – plain and simple.
I am buying a maverick because I have never owned a truck. Simply couldn't afford one. Now that I have a budget of $30k, still can't afford the truck I want. But the Mav fits the bill. Every $30kish suv new is super small with under 200hp. I am buying a Mav because it has good hp for its size. Because it's a truck I can afford. And because I will enjoy it more than a super small suv that I will hate driving.

Sound advice: i love my 2023 XLT Hybrid catus gray that I waited 12 months for. It's all I need, and practical for me and my standard poodle to get in and out of. Again, Sound advice, i often wonder if basic money management is taught in Public High Schools these days to help the students learn how not to make the same mistakes many of their parents made with owing so much money to other institutions.

When I retired I bought an acre and a half with a two story cabin for $139,000 back in 2018.
I retired early at fifty seven.
No mini pick ups other than the Nissan.
I did not need or want another, 'Cowboy Cadillac'
for some crazy price like $70,000.
Just so I can ride around in an empty gas hog and look tuff, no thanks.
I got a home and land for the cost of two big boy toyz.

The Maverick fits me, my needs. I really like it. It does everything well for a lot less than $40,000

1. My wife has always wanted a truck.
2. She wants a small truck.
3. I can easily afford it.

It just doesn't matter that

4. She really has no use for a truck!

After driving a Maverick for a couple of years and finding it super versatile/economical I would say: Why buy anything else?
