Based upon the platform that the Maverick is built, it would be easy for FoMoCo to put in the 2.3 Ecoboost and a 6 speed manual in it. Any chance of that actually happening?

Zilch, the unibody is set up for a east-west engine orientation. Doubt the north- south 2.3L EB and six-speed could be adapted.

I don't know about easy or if we'll ever see it happen, but the 2.3L and 6-speed manual were in the AWD Focus RS. So we know a similar platform has previously had that configuration. I think it would need to be AWD for sure though. Too much power to try and put down with just FWD.

The Focus RS was transversely mounted, featuring the 2.3L Eco and 6-speed.

The 2.3L EcoBoost is also transversely mounted in the Explorer, but with an automatic.

All I wish they would do for an ST variant is unique grille & painted lower trim/body moldings all around, a tuned suspension that's been lowered 1-2", wheels/tires, Recaro seats, and maybe an intake/exhaust from stock.

If Ford doesn't offer that in time, I think we'll see enough folks that end up just making their own. The 2.0L in such a light platform is going to a blast stock, let alone with a tune and some mods. We'll likely see low 5 sec 0-60 with just a couple of mods and tune. That's quick enough IMO, no need for the 2.3L.

The Focus RS was a cool car. Forgot it had a 2.3l, the ST IIRC was a 2.0l

I drove a ST once. Torque steer DELUXE
Scared the chit out of the sales man.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll just stick with the 2.0 Ecoboost AWD with 8 speed auto and perhaps do a tune, air intake and suspension mods.

I'd say it's possible to get an ST, but not with the current version of the 2.3 but maybe a hopped up (even bored stroked) version of the current 2.0. Highly unlikely a manual will happen. It'll be several years out though IF it happens.

Fewer and fewer people want to drive (or know how to drive) a manual anymore.

[I drive one now, but after 10 years of shifting I'll be glad to change to an automatic. Anyway, the manual interferes with my coffee drinking.]

Seriously, I really doubt that it would be worth Ford's time.

I agree the chances are likely zero, but I'd have paid more for a manual if they'd offered it. MUCH prefer the connection a manual provides between car and driver.

Makes it harder to be a distracted driver, too...

What issues did that motor have again?
