I just looked into a different brand of vehicle that I was interested in, due to the incredible mess that Ford has made of this. DIdn't want to to this but at the same time, I don't want to be waiting on a new vehicle into 2024. I was told by that dealer that they were charging a $2500 "market adjustment" on the price of the vehicle. I told them this was screwing the consumer/customer and they could shove it. Found a dealer that was not doing this and sticking with them. I don't care about supply and demand, etc. If they are doing this now, how can anyone trust them in the long run, so to speak? Wait until the "build back better" economy crashes and they have vehicles sit on the lot....I hope people remember. Good luck to everyone on here. You have provided excellent info. and advice, most of you.

Ah, dealing with Autonation. That's why you have bad data. Crooks over there. Closest dealer to me wouldn't step on their lot if they were giving them away.

They screwed up service on my jeep cherokee. Wheel fell off while I was driving due to them. They sat on it 3 weeks without looking at it to fix their screw up, then told me if I wanted it anytime soon take it somewhere else. Turned to insurance... And won't deal with shady people like that again.

You think you're all set dumping an old order sheet on a questionable dealer and are done... Good luck. I bet it buys you no time and you will still need to update the build data for any changes to the MY '23.

I could be wrong here, but generally if a wheel falls off, there is some responsibility on the part of the owner/driver. I mean, there are usually warning signs that a wheel is going to go do it’s own thing.

There where warnings, which is why it happened on the access road at 5 mph and not 70 that I was doing just before then. Sounded and felt like a big nail or tire going flat.

I took it in for service Saturday morning. Drove it home where it sat in the garage until work Monday. Wheel fell off after about 8 miles of highway driving going into work. They claim it wasn't them, someone probably tried to steal the wheel (from my private enclosed garage in the suburbs). Because that is more likely that during a brake check and tire rotation the tech didn't tighten the lug nuts properly.

I am not saying they didn’t tighten your lug nuts properly. But in between you leaving the shop with loose nuts, and your wheel coming off, you missed/ignored a lot of warning signs.

That's awfully presumptuous of you.

Wheels don’t go from not wobbly to falling off too fast. Lug nuts don’t go from on to off in an instant.

I’m not trying to argue or defend, I’m just saying it is more than likely that the car owner/driver bears some responsibility when they lose all their lug nuts and their wheel flys off.

I'm glad I only did this once, but I threw the wheels on a car I was rebuilding and took it for a short country road spin at 20 to 50mph. At roughly 3 miles I turned into an unimproved or rough driveway to turn around and return home. It was only then that I noticed my wheels were loose - VERY LOOSE!

So you are saying that there was a warning sign that your noticed and fixed the problem before your wheel flew off?

The warning signs were very similar (both sound and feel from vehicle) to a tire losing air rapidly (but not a blowout) from a large nail or roofing tack. I was therefore going from the far left toll lane on a 7 lane each way highway (I-10 in Houston) to the access road to safely investigate. If I had known that the wheel was coming off (it didn't fly off it happened on the access road at a very slow speed due to me pulling over and stayed right next to the vehicle) I probably would have gone to the left shoulder. I didn't ignore the warning signs. I didn't know what they were due to no previous context.

My point, and obviously others will feel differently and likely have different history with them, is that I don't trust Autonation. They refused to in any way be a stand up group. I get their concern for liability, but I don't do business with people I don't trust.
