My Maverick XLT is getting its fuel tank replaced do to drill holes apparently made while installing the factory spray bed liner. Anyone have any experience with wait time? Dealer is telling me 3 days for replacement tank to arrive?

I can’t believe they are still having some affected by that recall from December. This doesn’t make any since. Was your truck built before December 17th? Has the dealer pulled the tank down for inspection?

My truck was made 9/13/21 so an early unit. Yes, I took in for recall, they dropped the tank and said they’d have to get replacement from Ford.

There are probably people still driving with holes in their tanks, ignoring the recall emails.

I thought that issue only effected drop-in liners. What needs to get drilled for spray-in?

it doesn’t effect drop in liners at all. It only effected spray in bed liners. After the bed is sprayed the workers took a drill to the holes in the bed to clear out excess spray/blockage.

That would explain it. Absolutely foolish to do that.

One youtuber I watch said that the Ford techs at his dealership just poked a stick through the drain holes and called it good. They didn't drop the tank to inspect it.

I took my Maverick in for two safety recalls while having my first oil change at 5000 miles. The dealership conducted a trailer brake software update and a fuel tank inspection. My gas tank failed inspection and was replaced in 4 days. The dealership gave me a loaner during the replacement process so it was just a slight inconvenience. Back on the road with my Maverick now.

That is scary. No one to know if the tank was compromised.

I’m happy to report new fuel tank replacement took 4 days. I had a loaner, so I was not inconvenienced much at all.
For a brand new, early manufactured unit not to bad.

I took mine in last week for 5000 mile oil change, tire rotation and check the gas tank... They said mine was fine and they didn't find any damage. I guess the guy who did my spray in bed liner had a short drill bit... lol. I think when they inspect the tank they have to submit pictures of the top of the tank to clear the recall.

This is me. Not ignoring the emails/letters, but I don't have any cause for alarm. No visible leaks, no fuel vapor smell, etc. I'll take it in for my 10k oil change and have them look at it then, and do the trailer brake recall at the same time.
