Yes and as second verification go into the intelligent AWD window and watch how the power distributes to each wheel when you select each mode while driving. If the modes are working you'll see that they all are different.
I will do that on my way to my gun range (which is about 15 miles from my house) on one of my days off. There are also some pretty rough dirt roads there that I can really test out the mud/ruts and snow/sand modes. I think I read somewhere (probably here on MTC) that it's not good to run mud/ruts on pavement.
It’s prob more for the fx4 crowd that lost sport and eco mode. Why would you have to give those up after paying more? Or at least ford could have left eco mode.
That's good info! I was wondering how you could tell they were working without getting axle-deep in sand or mud.

No it is not good to run mud/ruts or snow/sand on pavement but as a test at low speed while monitoring the intelligent AWD window is okay. If you also feel the wheels vibrate on pavement in those modes that is another sign those 2 drive modes are working.
So this is where I am at with this. I worked out the ABS and BCM codes. When on set they throw an HDC error message in the cluster, button doesn't work. That says it is activated. Next problem is I get P0601A DTC codes in the PCM and AWD modules. When I reset the modules the PCM code goes away but the AWD DTC code doesn't. I am down to 2 possible causes here. 1 it is a wiring issue or 2 the AWD module needs to be configured also.
If it does require changing settings in the AWD module then I am going to say this mod is not viable for any FWD Mavericks and tentatively that it probably won't work without cruise control also installed and enabled. HDC is essentially a special form of CC and what I don't know is if it is independent of CC or a subset feature.
I did feel the vibration in both modes when I did my short test. I felt it more in the mud/ruts than the snow/sand, but I did feel it. I only drove about 50 yards in each mode. I also noticed auto stop/start was disabled in some of the modes (sport mode actually turned it off at the switch). I figured the off road ones would do this, but not sport. I'm learning more about this truck every day and I love it!
I was actually talking about the drive mode selection part, not hill descent. I believe mine will already come with that enabled. It should come with every feature except sport and eco modes
. No idea why they felt the need to remove those from the FX4 package.
