I just picked up my Maverick a lttle under 2 weeks ago Im getting poor gas mileage 27mpg I live in Buffalo NY weather has been cold very gold days i single digits and teens anyone else getting poor mpg

I got 36.5 on my first fuel up, and I'm looking more at 28-30 on my next fuel up (Measuring at pump, not digitally). The big difference was a 150ish mile trip I took on the highway where I was doing 80 for quite some time..

How are you driving and on what kind of terrian? Do you have the AC cranked all the time?

Is this your first hybrid? If it is, keep in mind there is a little learning curve

Keep in mind, really cold temperatures impact hybrid mileage. Having to run the engine all the time for heat, lower battery capacity, etc.

I am in WNY too... I have a hybrid Mav ordered. I have previously had a hybrid vehicle. I averaged about 10 mpg lower in the winter than in the other seasons. The winter blend gas makes a big difference as well as the cold temps. The biggest culprit is using the remote start and letting it run to warm up. You are burning gas and not going anywhere. You haven't had it long, and it has been cold here. Wait until late spring and see how it does then!

I'm in Michigan, very similar weather over last month. Got my Hybrid in late December and milage has dropped through out January. So your milage will improve as weather warms. That being said 27 is low. Try using eco mode and more importantly, use EV Coach, that will help show were your flaws are in your driving habits.

Also, check your tire pressure!

As others have suggested, cold weather is a bad time to get a good read on max mpg in a hybrid. The engine has to run more to keep the heat going. The higher you set your heat, the lower your mpg. Also, the terrain and your acceleration and braking behavior are key variables that influence your mpg performance. Try using the eco coach to get the most out of it but, again, expect better results in warmer weather.

The eco coach taught me to put the heater on when going uphill and the engine has to be on anyway and turn it off when descending/coasting, so the engine doesn't pop on when it doesn't have to. It's weird but you get used to it.

Oh man, you gotta at least burn one tank off before you start counting mpg, and even that's still low a number to make a statistically valid statement.

Also, do your mpg math at the pump. The vehicle will only display an estimate, and a pretty bad one at that.

everyone else already said you need more miles, but also:

did you reset your mpg counter after you took delivery? it was likely idling for a long time prior to taking over.

My mpg in southern MI was 27 for my first tank, but that is during short trips, very cold weather and also repeated idling to pick kids up for 30-45 min some days...When I do longer drives is MUCH BETTER and 35-40mpg for those trips - my fuel economy is always 20% lower in cold winter weather, but is still much better than the 11-12mpg of my v8 Explorer

All cars get significantly worse mileage in the winter (see the EB worst MPG thread, many gettting under 20mpg in the winter). The Corolla I sold for my maverick got 25mpg on it's last tank in Dec. I usually got about 35 mpg in the summer. The first month of my Maverick I got low 30s because it's been frigid for most of January and I do a lot of short trips. It was actually about 30°F yesterday, and I got 50mpg on a 12 mile round trip errand.

Here’s a cold 29F trip to work in the early morning with a couple minutes of defrost, then basically same going back to work after getting lunch from home, i think it was more like 45F, and engine may have had a little wanrth from my trip to the house and hour before. Cold environment and a little bit of climate control really impacts mpg for short trips lol. My computer says around 20-25 for my morning trips generally, and 30-45 for coming home depending on a lot of variables. Also I gave less shits about efficient driving when I was cold probably. Not an apples to apples comparison but you get the point. This cold morning drive was probably the lowest my estimated trip to work has ever been heh.

Northern Ohio here.

Some tips. Warming up the truck is going to cost you a lot of mpg. If you can stomach it, just start running and once the engine warms up on its own at least 2 bars (lariat) or one line on the xl/xlt, then turn on the heat. It will run warm even when the engine is off. Also, don't put it up to hi or even in the 80s. Hi will basically make the engine run non stop.

Also, get better at breaking and coasting. Since the engine isn't running, don't get it started running until you really need the power. Parking lots can be driven without gas power the whole way through.

Try to stay around or below 20 percent power. Running tow or sport will run higher power and runs the engine far more.

My experience is the warmer weather is making a huge difference. Got 46mpg yesterday in the high 30s c compared to the cold.

Over 500 miles in, my mpg is now up to 32 after 29 on the first tank. This tank is 34mpg. And that's with a trailer for some miles on both tanks running tow/haul.

Big thing is to get try to keep in electric mode as much as possible. You'll get better. My first few days were in the high 20s in this freezing cold in Ohio.
