I just received an email from Ford encouraging me to take my Mav to the trained Tech's at my local dealer for service I can trust, accompanied by the following photo. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I don't think you're supposed to crank on the lug nuts without the car up on a jack.

Try breaking the lugs free, or torquing them down while a vehicles on a lift/jacked up, see how that works out for you. ;)

If you have a good relationship with your dealer - certainly take it to them.

Although, I rotate my own tires & do my own oil changes. Yes, final torque tightening should be done with vehicle on ground. Also want to slightly loosen them before lifting.

The picture shows a Tech doing it correctly. Many tire shops don’t.

Final torque tightening, that's the correct way

My eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be, but sure looks like it's up on a jack?

Now, having said that, the only reason I let a dealer touch my vehicle is for warranty work, and even that is case-by-case....

I do, always have since 2010.
Never had a dealer problem.

My Regular service cost $80
For full synthetic, all fluid top off and tire rotation.
PLUS the fifth one’s free.
Works out to $64 per service.

I used to do it myself, My time is more valuable to me these days.
I’m not doing all that work to save $20
Tire rotation, oil disposal no thank you.
I get a cup of coffee, walk around and window sticker shop the lot.
Don’t even get my hands dirty.

They got good coffee,
And I’m on my way in 45 minutes or so.

I still do it myself but I do like their coffee! Last time I visited our local Ford dealer was to have them install my FREE AGM battery!!! :)

I agree. That tire doesn't appear to have the weight of the truck on it, and my dealer only does warranty or recall work for me.

I never rotated my own tires. I used to do oil changes, plugs, points, timing, carb rebuild, but now I don't do any of it. I don't enjoy it anymore and I got rid of my jack stands. My wife has freaked out if I crawl under anything since her grandfather had a car fall on him.

Too many bad experiences at dealership service deptartments. Not all are equal - especially mechanics and shop foremans, some good, some bad. The problem is finding the right (shop foreman) one that ensures the job is done right. Some we have found want to charge for "shop materials" on top of the stated service cost and isnt posted or advertised until the ticket is presented for paymemt (WTF?). Other issues experienced is test drives by mechanic friends, missing vehicles, shop damages, and, poor maintenance techniques like spilling oil, missing parts, over/not tightening filter, lugnuts, etc.

Will continue doing my own maint as long as I can. To some extent.... its my hobby and I have enjoyed doing it since back in the '70s. However do draw the line on certain things especially non-maint warranty issues, but, definitely look over everything any of them have touched.

IMO (and experience), no one will take care of anything I own better than I would.

In 1972 I took my car to Sears to have their steel belted radials tires rotated. I drove 500 miles back to college and when I stopped in front of my dorm, I heard "click", "click", "click". I popped the hub cap off and 4 out of 5 lug nuts fell to the ground. Final torquing with the wheels on the ground is very important.

Had a similar situation once with an old Woolco store service dept that did a ball joint replacement and front bearing re-pack on my '68 Chevell. But, in my case they forgot to put on the cotter retaining pin on the spindle and the hub, wheel and tire caught on fire from the over heated wheel bearings while going to work that day.
