If they get a collection service involved they most likely just sold their right to collect to the collection service for 10-20% of the balance owed. So the dealership no longer has an interest. The collection service has purchased the right to turn you in, etc.

If that happens again, go tell the collections company to go pound sand, and send them a cease and desist letter, which they would have to do.

Strange that they should overcharge you $1440 and then try to collect $600 in taxes. California (based on your location) sales tax is 7.25%. Your tax would only be $100.80 and not $600.

Just ignore them until they give you a letter specifying what you owe.

Check your paperwork. You might have signed something agreeing in advance to help them correct any errors in the paperwork.

In Missouri the dealership does not collect sales tax on a new car the DOR does when you go to the license office. You pay the sales tax as a part of the license process. Perhaps in Missouri if you have dealer add ons they could collect sales tax on those items only because they were not on the truck as built by Ford.
