I am sure a solution can be easily fabricated. Search amazon for weatherproof box. Here is one example... You could make the cutouts big enough for the harness to go through and then silicone around them. can still be opened for service if need be. Tons of sizes to choose from

This one looks legit. Even has seal tight connectors on each side.

Left & right are rather open shields - not keeping water out. Didn't open, but betting it's an open back on connector. Can only hope the open side is slightly pointed down, but probably not.
Middle a tad better for what you'd expect for exposed to elements. But only 1 side seems to have a rubber topper.

Now the real question is - did I beat Glenn for diving under the truck for pics!

It’s an entry level vehicle not a Lincoln.
Being entry level does not justify leaving a vehicle unfinished. This mentality is why the Japanese and Koreans ate the big 3's lunch.
It does make sense if you consider that the original intent was to design a $20,000 base truck.
When VW launched the jetta, it was a $18k vehicle. Surprise surprise....it didnt have holes under the body, or exposed wiring.

It's just a matter of attention to detail and caring about your work.

I can’t tell from the pictures, but GM connectors have seals around each individual wire just at the connector where it goes into the block. These may have the same, you just can’t see it because of the retainer being snapped on, (the white part.)

And yet not a single forum user has ever reported any problems with this connector and warranty work.

I wonder if people are creating a solution where there is no problem.
The oldest Maverick is maybe 4 years old? Average age probably 2 ish. Notice the pics folks have posted with nice clean undersides?

Just imagine what 10 years of road grime will look like underneath! Ok, many of us don’t consider the Maverick as a long lasting truck - but still…

I installed this Mabett cavity cover. Ford left a gaping whole in that area. Doesn't make sense, but apparently there are many shortcuts Ford took on Mavericks.

That one makes sense. The exhaust is there and Ford wasn’t putting a metal insert.

I showed my dealer the identical concern on my 2026 Maverick Hybrid Lariat. They checked 2 other 2026 models and they both have the same condition. I am searching for a solution but do not want to cover it where moisture can get trapped. I thinking of putting Dielectric grease on the connectors. I will also write a letter to Ford Corporate highlighting this poor design. Here is my photo.

Sure, but still . . . this should be basic protection.
It's not just Ford, more and more manufactures are skimping on under body protection in the same areas. It isn't all that long ago that there was none at all, the under body stuff didn't really take off until the late 90's ealry 2000's.

As with virtually all environmentally-sealed connectors, the individual wires seal to the connector housing.

Plastic backshells are intended to physically reinforce the wire bundle, not seal it. They're mostly for strain relief, but also for additional mechanical shielding *when needed*.. but they're often not needed.

Here's an exploded view of the connector with the backshell in OPs picture. The silicone wire seal is item 4, colored blue. The backshell (sold separately) doesn't seal.

Thank you sticks. Ugly is only skin deep when it comes to the robustness of our harnesses. It is pretty where it needs to be. I’ll leave mine as is!

I rather surprised at how few pics have undercoating.

Certainly. Yet, they are no longer 20k trucks. MSRP on mine was nearly 36k. Got several discounts that brought the price down substantially, but still, it was far from 20k
If you paid 36K for an XL, you need to reevaluate your existence.
