Nothing is free. Including EV miles from those cars. There's still talk about taxing EV'S. Hope they don't include hybrids.
Washington state does "tax" hybrids, $75 dollars per year extra for registration, so we pay state gas tax (.554 cents/gal) on top of a fee for supposedly not paying our fair share of road maintenance. Feds are working on adding a tax for EV's and hybrids too.

I agree; there are many other costs and ways to save money on a vehicle purchase than gas alone. I drive a truck that gets 16mpg going downhill with a tailwind. But for the capabilities I needed at the time that I bought it, I comparatively "saved" a lot of money relative to the other vehicles on the market. And because I know I won't keep the car indefinitely, I don't sweat $6 a gallon gas because paying $6 a gallon is still a lot cheaper than paying tens of thousands up front to "save" money on gas.
In Ohio the Mav is considered a light duty truck and exempt from the $100 hybrid annual fee!
Just look at your figures and then explain how if the Hybrid only costs $1K more than the Ecoboost, how on earth could it take 60 years to recoup that amount? Read post #37, Mavster Mechanic breaks it down very well.

My figures were based on the idea that @Tigerpawn was going to buy a hybrid Maverick in addition to keeping his EcoBoost Maverick with the primary purpose of saving money on gas, because he said:

Again, yes, if @Tigerpawn was going to sell the EB and buy the hybrid, I agree 100% that the hybrid will pay for itself in no time. But my figures were based on @Tigerpawn keeping the EB and buying a hybrid.
I see the disconnect now. I interpreted the OP's post that they are buying a second Maverick either way and it will be an Ecoboost or a Hybrid.
A friend with a 90's Subaru replaced her turbo almost every year.One thing to keep in mind too is that turbos aren't as unreliable as they were decades ago. It figuratively seemed everyone with a turbo ended up replacing them. But earlier models in cars at the time, and the cars tended to be performance oriented vehicles.
My car is BOTH a turbo and a hybridBut for that one I wanted more performance. I was looking for good enough for my truck, and it suffices.
With my 2025 Hybrid FWD, out of 21 fillups I've had 3 times I averaged over 40 mpg (calculated, not the computer showing), and 3 times under 30. The low ones were highway miles with about 100 miles of it at 80mph. My overall over almost 13 months and 5800 miles is 34.8 mpg.

If you can still find one (pretty rare) a 2025 gas 2.0 Maverick is now discounted $3500 compared to a 2026 hybrid.
