Back in the day when BMW made the 318 they had problems with carbon, vehicles had rough idle and running rough with AC on or loss of power going up hills those brilliant German engineers told us to tell customers to add a bottle of techron at fill up, that went over real good, sorry your car is not going to run good unless you use additives in fuel or dont use your AC or go up steep hills.
Interesting that they recommended Techron.

That's what I've used for decades and it seems to work well (quickly eliminates rough idle) but I'm not aware of any serious, objective testing of additives. So when I hear that BMW engineers recommend it, that's helpful.

I notice that in #105, Bill posted that, "Kia suggests Techron fuel system cleaner in their turbos." Another solid endorsement.

Ever seen an expiration date on a bottle of water ?
I have,
Did you know that water, ALL water is
FOUR BILLION years old ?

No ? I didn’t think so.
:’P
The expiration date is correlated to ppm of plastic particles. When the particle level exceeds one million per 16 ounces, the product expires or perhaps the one who drinks it expires????;)

Many people think bottled water is also!!! Many years ago, an Illinois school teacher I knew came to Georgia to turkey hunt. While sitting around a campfire, he philosophized and said: Tom, something is not right. We used to go outside to crap and cooked and ate inside. Now we crap inside our home and think it is great to cook and eat outside.. He had not totally adjusted and still had an outhouse!!:) Progress, as is bottled water!!?

Since we're on the subject...

I have never bought bottled water because:

* It's expensive
* It's heavy (cases of it)
* All of those plastic bottles aren't really recycled
* It has microplastics in it, and may have PFAS
* It's usually just filtered city water
* You must run to the store when you run out of it

We have good clean well water. It does not need to be filtered, but I use a 5 micron sediment filter, 2 Omni carbon block filters -- CB1 and CB3; and a Brita pitcher with their better quality filter. That eliminates all of the issues above.

The cost is ~10 cents per gallon and it's always available.

Amateur tip: Be sure to buy standard size filter housings -- 2.5x10' and 4x10" are common -- so you are not trapped into purchasing expensive proprietary filters.

I learned only today that “top tier” was more than a term of art. It is actually a gasoline standard originally promoted by a host of car manufacturers that included big name, mostly foreign companies and GM. Since its inception, many others including Ford have joined the ranks. If I had read the owners manual closer I would have known sooner. It references toptiergas.com, which is an interesting website. They have a searchable data base of suppliers that meet the standard as well as some interesting videos. I learn something new on this site nearly every day.

Most everyone has a credit card size piece of plastic inside their bodies.

While reading this thread I was wondering if one day a "Top Tier" electricity will be sold lol.

One more thing they don't have to really worry about though. I really can't wait for that tech to be perfected.
WOW! I cannot wait to see electron+ being marketed!!!!

Some power stations are already featuring “Sourced From Renewable Energy Only” in their marketing/Advertising. Not sure if they are “charging” a premium:)

Starting this year (2025), Top Tier gas will start changing to Top Tier+…completing the transition by 2027.

Some Top Tier stations are already offering the Top Tier+ in their most expensive grade.
By 2027, all grades will be Top Tier+ and OEM owners manuals will reflect the new requirement.

“Top Tier” is an OEM designation. Voluntary, but major gas makers adhere because they want to sell gas to OEM vehicles:)

Below is a great explanation of Top Tier gas & the additive that makes it that way:

Very interesting and informative. Thank you.

Top Tier and ethanol are two completely different things.

Top Tier is about detergents, and can come with ethanol in it (it does around here).
