The nice thing about a hybrid is that it has its own little power generating plant. The primary gas engine creates additional power via the batteries. Anyone worried about the price of electricity would need to be driving an EV or plug-in hybrid.
Of course the hybrid still has to rely on the price of gas… and the electricity used to process/deliver the ⛽.
When the world was looking at alternative ways to power a vehicle, hybrids were the best compromise for the petroleum industry.
Good day

I love the electric drive feel as well, when the engine is off and cruising along on electric power only....my Mav sometimes is doing 80-90 kph on battery alone. Nice!

I definitely agree that the grid has more to worry about with all these AI and data centre power hogs being thrown up all over. Their power consumption in astronomical and from what I have been reading, their clean water use as well.

Give me a world full of electric vehicles for us average users and maybe keep the fuel (especially diesel) for real work vehicles like farm tractors and equipment, semi trucks, construction equipment and ships.

I am hoping our (personal) next step in vehicles (Maverick or Bronco Sport size) has a good sized battery (300-400 miles) awd drive with a range extender/generator only. It can plug in inside of our garage for daily use, and for a road trip you have the RE till you can plug it in next stop.

I personally detest when I have to go and pump gas and support the oil companies. Put them and their gas guzzling vehicles in the past like horse and buggies and steam engines as primary modes of transportation.

2030-ish is my target year for our next vehicle, and I hope they come out with an appropriate vehicle for us in 2028, so I can see what they are like before we need to decide...

Moral of the story, get what you need, and only you can know what that is....gas, hybrid, BEV.

Have a great day!

This thread left out a critical option. It should be "hybrid vs gas vs electric". You can't buy an electric small "truck" from Ford in 2026, but you'll be able to in 2027.

These tribal wars over powertrain choices are endlessly entertaining and fun, but maybe we should just all agree "to each his own".

I love my hybrid but it still pisses me off to have to pay over $70 to put a measly 14 gallons in the tank. We don't drive much and certainly can afford the gas we have to buy, but I feel for families on a tight budget that are driving gas guzzlers because that is what they could afford.

What I read online thst most have them
Had to be replaced at 100,000 miles
Which could be fake news
The HV Batteries were tested in NYC cabs in Ford Escape Hybrids in the early 2000's era, reportedly for 300,000 miles without a HVB failure. I have no idea what a Mav 2.0 EB turbo replacement cost is, but a buddy just replaced the turbo in his 3/4ton Dodge Ram. Cost him $7,500. I'm betting on hybrid HVB longevity & improved fuel economy to win the long term "Value" race. For EB owners, or any vehicle with turbo, allowing a cool down period after driving hard before turning off, allows turbo to cool, prolonging turbo life.

I'm amazed at all the time spent trying to discredit EB vs Hybrid, Hybrid vs EB by the owners on this site. I have seen no evidence that one is considerably more reliable than the other. They both have their advantages and disadvantages, and they are relatively minor in comparison. This has been covered over and over and over again.

They're both great vehicles. Buy the one that makes you happy and enjoy it.
Agree, they are both great vehicles, a matter of choice. I prefer my hybrid, but realistically my fuel mileage is not significantly higher than the 2.0 EB, primarily because much of my 12k miles are over the road where ICE runs a lot. I do like the simplicity of the hybrid eCVT transmission, & the same Atkinson cycle engine that was in my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. I drove it 95k miles in 9 years. Still had original tires, 12V battery, brake shoes & rotors. If my 25MY Mav Hybrid is that reliable remains to be seen. As another poster said, to each his own.

I already own a ford maverick. fx4 gasoline was thinking of also buying a hybrid, I was wondering if it really saves you money by the time
you have to replace the hybrid battery at around
100;000 miles
hss anyone done the math on it
thsnx
The thing people don't seem to realize about electric and hybrid batteries: you don't generally replace them like you do a 12V battery. Either they fail on one end of the bath tub curve, (high failures when new and when at extreme end of service life when most vehicles from it's era are already either wrecked or failing from lack of maintenance), or, as is much less likely, in between these points. I don't have the numbers that Ford works off of, but I would hazard a guess that fewer than 2% of batteries will need to be replaced in their service life, outside of the warranty.
