I know this question has been asked here into Submission. I have a 22’ eco, 4K XLT. I have a 54 mile round trip commute almost daily and I tow my 1100 lb alum boat once or twice a month about 20-30 miles each trip. The mpg comp says 29.4 after a year of not resetting. I have a 23’ XLT hybrid BAP tow hitch coming soon. The rate on my loan will be higher but hopefully the magic Maverick equity I have will help offset. This incoming unit is unique b/c it’s before the XLT Lux must have for the BAP. Thoughts?
Curious why you want to get rid of your 22 already? Is it just for more mpg? Everyone is different but I keep my vehicles a long time.my ram is 14 yrs old.hoping to get another 10 years out of it.hoping to get 10-15 years out of the maverick. I usually pay cash for vehicles though.

I get about 40 mpg on the average. Towing it's about 25 but has plenty of power to tow my 5 x 10 trailer full of wood about 15 miles. It saves me about $200 a month over my old Colorado 4x4.

yeah, but what would it save over a Maverick ecoboost like the OP has? he should keep his current truck.

It depends on what's more important to you between towing capacity and fuel consumption. Driving a hybrid would save you at least $50 per month when compared to the Ecoboost based on the number of miles you drive. Is that enough savings to make the switch worth it?

Why would the state have anything to do with it? I'm in IL, and I ordered the Hybrid because i drive 90% stop and go.

Everything is expensive in Cali. It's all relevant.
It's strange that you don't understand why someone would think it matters more in California.

if a hybrid saves 100 gallons a month over an ecoboost - which it wouldn't unless you're driving like 3k miles a month but it's just easier math -
- if gas is $5.50 a gallon that's $550 a month
- if gas is $3.50 a gallon it's $350 a month

More realistic mileage & gallons consumed would probably make a hybrid cost $20-50 less per month for fuel than an ecoboost in California and half that savings in a state with the cheapest pump prices.

My son lives in California. His only car is a 662HP Supercharged Shelby GT500. It doesn't matter more in California, it matters what your budget is. He didn't buy the Shelby to conserve on fuel, quite the opposite in fact. He can afford the premium fuel it uses, and loves getting on it.

If your budget tells you need that couple hundred in savings, do it. Or ride a bike and save even more! He loves riding 100+ miles a day on bike too.

Heres my take. Ordered an eco XL with awd.
Main feature i wanted was awd, i go into the desert to shoot pistolas, Nothing drastic offroad but not the best for our Impala.
We drive 12,000 miles a year roughly. Most of those are taking her to work at the MGM, highway miles. I'm retired.
So i doubt we'd save much $ with a hybrid if anything. . Also i'll bet ya down the road repair cost might nail ya on a hybrid. Lot more parts to break and i doubt they'll be cheap.

lol wut? This is perfect scenario stuff. There is far more to it than budget. Not everyone can ride a bike to drop the kids off at school and it does matter what costs more in states like California to a majority of people. Essentially you are saying your son refuses to save money on this asset because it's his choice to be cool over efficient.

Cool story.

No, I'm saying he drives/rides what he wants. He doesn't let the fact that he lives in Cali dictate what he can buy. He bought the Shelby fresh out of college, and he earned it. First and only car he bought. He could buy a hybrid, but doesn't need to. He put a trailer hitch on the car to haul their bikes around when traveling. He is an Engineer at GM, and could borrow a vehicle any time he wants. But he prefers the car he owns, not a shop car.
