We are going to return our 2026 XLT Maverick to Ford. The infotainment amongst other things are unfortunately god awful!
Half to time the infotainment screen crashes and goes blank, often at a critical time when we need sat nav! Ford says this is normal and to switch off the engine and open the door.
You look at the infotainment screen for a split second, and due to the too quick steering you are on the oncoming traffic lane.
When the infotainment is working the screens are impossible to navigate, and I’m very tech savvy!
When you do press a screen button you inadvertently hit the heated sears or another wrong screen button and this is on a perfectly flat road.
It’s often impossible to get to the nav screen half the time or the Spotify screen or any other screen.
Did I mention the steering is too fast, I have constantly correct it on a straight road,
My wife is in agreement to all this and doesn’t hardly touch the infotainment screen, she navigates from her phone.
I no loner have YouTube
How the hell does ford release this crap, and make the customer do all the bug testing. I would have been fired if I released crap like this!
I would welcome your feedback, thank you

Paul,
It's unfortunate that you've had such troubles with your Maverick.

Take care and safe travels.
I'd like to know if you got their Silverado back.🤷‍♂️

My feedback is if you are having issues and very unhappy with the vehicle, as I can tell you are, then feel safe in knowing that returning it is the right move for you and your family. Best wishes! And good luck!

Just picked up a 2026 XLT last month and I did notice a quirk with the steering at freeway speeds. Tends to walk a little bit…thinking alignment may need fine tuning but it’s not significant. Or it may just be me getting use to a vehicle with a shorter wheelbase than my previous truck.

Haven’t had any issues with the infotainment. I use Car Play almost exclusively though. Haven’t had issues with miss hits on the screen.

Did you take it to the dealer to see if it needs an update?

Screen going black is not good. I've had it on my F150 and I think they did an OTA update to make that stop. Navigating around the Sync system was odd to me at first, but I've learned it and am ok with it. I wish some things behaved differently but they aren't going to change it for me lol.

I don't hit the control buttons on the bottom of the screen by accident at all. I do tend to put one finger on the edge of the screen and touch with another if the vehicle is moving. I think the steering is great. It would be interesting for you to drive another Maverick and see if it's the same.

Ford built 150,000 of these things last year. If 99.9% of them are perfect, that still leaves 150 that have issues. Sounds like you got one of the 150.

Do what is best for you.

Life's short to be angry. Move on and be happy, plenty of trucks to choose from out there!
Keep safe!

The maverick uses electric power steering, and on normal driving mode it is cranked way too high, so there is little to no feedback. Sport mode makes the steering heavier but makes the truck WAY too eager to gun it.

One of the nice things about the VW is that steering setting can be altered. I keep it in Sport mode for steering, which makes it nice and heavy. If I put it in Normal mode, it has the same issue of being too light and wandering.

Ford used to offer this setting as an option but eliminated it in 2018 when they began paring back features offered via Sync. IDK why and I've offered that suggesting to Ford whenever they email me for feedback.

We are going to return our 2026 XLT Maverick to Ford.
Sorry to hear it's not a good vehicle for you. Have you had the opportunity to drive a different XLT to see if it is any different? There is always the possibility that you got one that is not "Job 1" quality.

In any case I hope you find what you need for your family.

Just picked up a 2026 XLT last month and I did notice a quirk with the steering at freeway speeds. Tends to walk a little bit
The steering feel - coming from a '19 Grand Caravan, the Maverick is much better in all driving "feel", the minivan was a chore to drive at freeway speeds, would always wander and need constant corrections, the dealership even put it on the alignment rack for me at no charge and showed me (in person) that is was pretty much dead-nut in spec. Later I found it's a known thing on the Grand Caravan. Of course, the minivan was a lot softer to ride in, sort of like a Barcalounger on wheels so to speak.

Maybe wheel and tire choices affect this too? And of course, the usual suspects of 4-wheel alignment and tire pressures - I spent a lot of time on a Hunter alignment system decades ago, was fun tweaking my and my friends rides and learning how it affected handling. Later in life had a Miata and paid to have it set it to zero toe with me in the seat - nothing I've driven before or since matched the feel of that car*. High/low tire pressures can make a huge difference in steering response, high pressures will make the vehicle feel twitchy.

On my Lariat the infotainment and lack of physical switches is taking some getting used to but for me it's been working OK the past weeks I've had the vehicle. For sure it's much harder to make it "muscle memory" when it's a touchscreen, but my approach to the vehicle has been to train myself on it. Today I turned on the "Predictive Speed Assist" for the first time, might be handy to know how it works. I do like that it sets the cruise control speed up for me as I drive.

*there is also no feeling like being stuck next to an 18 wheeler in a Miata at speed and seeing that one of the load tires was about to shed it's retread. I'm pretty sure my pucker factor wrinkled the seat permanently that day.

Did you both test drive Maverick before purchase?

I noticed that there's a slightly different feel to the steering if the lane keeping assist is on vs off. It seems to be a bit more settled with the assist off especially if you line to drive in a different spot that the assist prefers. I recommend turning it off just to see the difference. I keep mine on because I like the extra bit of nudge it gives if I drift.

I wonder also because except for the blank screen, the rest is just the operation of the truck. Every vehicle has its own "feel" and operating characteristics. And the complaints seem to be things that are noticed on a 10 minutes test drive 🤷🏾‍♂️
