I need to start popping the oil fill cap off during fillups when I check the oil dipstick.
Or in this case, even at the 20k inspection that occurred about 300 miles before the oil/filter change.
At which time I had to refill the engine coolant tank from mid-level. Which was mid-level again by the oil/filter change. Hmmm.

Never had anything show up on the dipstick.
Nothing in the old oil showed a thing.
Went thru last years winter and the oil change didn't have this in Apr.
But service writer said - nah, normal condensation, he's seen it on his F250.
Really?

Guess I'll have to wait until coolant drops more, and this shows up again - to get their attention.
I've never had this in a vehicle, and many oil/filter changes ended up being the same time of year for the same potential.

“Condensation…”

Have never seen that in 40 years and 7 cars, 2 bikes, and who knows how many lawnmowers, living from the Gulf Coast to the desert.

Granted, I’ve never owned a hybrid. Is this exacerbated by the engine not getting up to temp enough?

Oil/water emulsion happens, it could be for different reasons (none of them good). You’ve already found 1 possibility – “At which time I had to refill the engine coolant tank from mid-level. Which was mid-level again by the oil/filter change. Hmmm.” As others have mentioned – cold climate, lots of short-tripping, rarely getting engine up to full temp – yes you can definitely get condensation, exacerbated if your PCV system also has issues.

It’s a very common problem on Kawasaki Mule UTV’s that are started cold/shut off after a short ride and this pattern is repeated frequently. On later models with their ridiculously long dipsticks, many instances of the dipstick rusting to the point they disintegrate.

Coolant in the engine oil, schedule a service ASAP.
There is no ‘service’ for a blown head gasket.

It will get worse fast now. Continued use will put extreme wear on all the internal engine components.

Have you noticed any abnormal white smoke from the exhaust? Definitely does not look good that's for sure.

He won’t see that until the valve guides and or the oil and compression rings fail, and they will.
Or,
The turbo bearings will likely overheat first.
Engine oil passes through two tiny one inch long screen filters before getting to the turbo bearings. It will clog up in short order.

If any one thing I’ve stated is correct that ice is in its final hours.
100, 200, 500 miles to go maybe.

Your engine is scrod; you have a blown head gasket which has probably killed one of your cylinders. The Ford 2.0 Ecoboost is famous for this and clobbering the #3 cylinder. Gotta admit this is the first time I've heard of it in a 2.5 Atkinson. For the 2.0s, all they can do is replace the short block.
The service writer is an idiot. While condensation is a thing, hybrid oil helps mitigate against that, but has NOTHING to do with coolant levels. He just doesn't want to replace an engine under warranty.

‘Scrod’ is a perfect description.

The real stupidity is the service writer never touches the work, he/she is a paper pusher.
Replacing an engine does not affect his/her paycheck one bit.

You should have looked him/her in the eye and said, “Go get your service manager, I’ll wait”.
Followed by, “Who do I see about a loaner because I will not drive a vehicle with a blown engine.”

Common issue. Water will condense at the coldest point, which would be the oil cap. If you see the same on the dipstick or during an oil drain/change, THEN you have problems.

This is a, only taking short trips during periods of cold weather and not getting the oil temperature high enough to burn off condensation thing. Happens to all types of vehicles, hybrid or not. If you live in a warm climate you’d likely never see this.

Bingo, this is the answer. Way to much over reaction about a possible blown head gasket.

You made me go out and check my 23 XLT hybrid, 18,100 miles. 5000 mile oil changes. Never touched coolant, level is at minimum. Did not see it at last oil change at 15,000 miles. I use Mobil 1 hybrid 0-20w synthetic. It has been really cold here the last month, 20 degrees daytime, much lower overnight. Hmmmm...
