Asking general guidance for Hybrid engine - how do you warm up the engine (not the cabin heat) in extreme cold weather

For my past gas burning engines I would always let the car run for 1 minute or so to get fluids moving around before engine load of going into Drive

If the hybrid starts and stays in "electric mode" the gas engine just kicks in down the road, is there anything to do to be nice to my Mavvy? Just wondering

If you use FordPass app or have the remote start FOB just start as normal and gas motor will kick in as needed depending in outside temp. On my Lariat the drivers seat and steering wheel heat activate when it’s cold out and heater starts up and after a couple minutes the cabin and motor are ready to go. If you prefer just start manually as normal and gas engine should kick in depending on electrical load and temp.

Bill,
Are you wanting to remote start or physically start your hybrid?
I am asking because, if you physically go to your truck and "turn it on" ( a phrase I use for hybrids)
you can then press the accelerator and the ice engine will start.
Once the ice engine has started I have no idea how long it will continue to run.

You can have a block heater installed if you've got a place to plug in.

On my 2024 Lariat Hybrid, I would press accelerator all the way to the floor when I pressed start button. Gas engine would start and stay running for a few minutes.

The gas engine will start right away if you have cabin heater set to on.

If not, gas engine may or may not start right way (unless you do a quick gas pedal press after starting it).

In either case the gas will run until the water temp reaches AT LEAST 120°F.

Sounds like this is the good concern of wanting to warmup the ICE before using it.

Of course advice in last many years is maybe 30 sec warmup and then gently get vehicle moving to truly warm it up.

When cold I do the above advice - gas pedal to 50% in park will turn the ICE on.
ICE or snow on windshield dealt with.
Then I get buckle on, radio on, HVAC dealt with but usually no heat so not yet.
That hits 30 sec usually. Then gently on my way.

But the system does go for some protection anyway, even if you start out in EV mode.
Unless you are in EV mode all the way to a stop sign to enter busy traffic street - and then required to punch it with ICE for the first time. That's not good.

Otherwise, turn your radio and HVAC off and listen for this difference.
When ICE is first kicked on because power request was above 10% (12-15% for 25MY) but NOT punching it - the power is actually not used from the ICE, the Generator Motor spins as if in Park or Neutral cancelling it's assist to the drive train - the Traction Motor power is used up to max amps and below the normal HVB 30% SOC.
Until the catalytic converter reaches 1000 F.
Just below that the logs show the ICE torque very barely coming up, but once it hits the 1000 - it's engaged.

If you listen carefully - you can hear the change, at least on XLT without great sound proofing.
Even if doing the warmup in Park and ICE is going to stay on due to call for heat, can still hear the difference. I find it very interesting.
Below 20 mph with the hybrid sound and tire noise going I can't hear the ICE really in that state, and it feels like hybrid mode, because it is.

Your EV Coach during the time of cat warmup, and coolant to 120 warmup - will show that blue EV rectangle around what will eventually go solid blue if in the range to use it.
You might be sitting there dropping the Go pedal and gently back on trying to engage EV mode and only see that. That's why, not up to 120F yet, or higher if calling for heat.

Thx all! -- pedal trick or heat to ON will play with, my general goal isto get oil and other fluids moving before driving.

I have the telematic fuse out since spring as i was battling "deep sleep mode fun" but new battery and the SSM 53648 update have left me 5 months free from deep sleep so i may re-plug the fuse and do auto starts also.

I covered this in a different post.
When I reinstalled fuse 11/12 it took about a month and my interior lights quit coming on.
So, I removed it again.🤷🏻‍♂️

Since Deep Sleep IS the disabling of the modem - you've merely had self-induced DSM.

You mean the battery saver functions - your lights have been on normal amount of time on entry/exit?

How's your ATT signal where you mainly park, travel?

I find that the ICE comes on to warm up the cabin. Try leaving the cabin temp higher when you shutoff the truck and see if that helps. The truck should remember the temp controls at the next start.

When turning 'on' press the accelerator down about 3/4 and the ice will start and run till it gets a little bit of heat. Wish I had more control myself. When it "kicks in" The electric motor helps out so there's less load (if there's a charge) which is good.
My hybrid has a hard time coming up to temperature in the cold (made it up to 16 degrees today) so once in awhile I like to take it on a long trip to get it good and hot. That's the price of great efficiency.
